I have been recently working on designing my own site, http://www.bryannorthey.com , and it is finally starting to get where I want it. The forum skin will most likely change, but I am waiting on the design. The user login now works and so does the mailing list. I was wondering what you thought of the overall look and feel. The content is not yet big enough, and I am working on it. If you are interested in writing arcticles let me know.

This site is completely add free and does not cost the user any money. You do not have to register to get tutorials and it is 100% free. It will focus on how to create your own website from scratch using the most primitave languages, HTML, to the most advanced PHP and MySQL queries.

Thanks for the review,

Good concept,

The site is simple with a neat layout.

It has a nice look to it. The one suggestion that I have for you would be to change the background color to a light shade of brown or tan. It would compliment the rest of the site better. You have done a lot of work! Well done!

Simple but you made it look great!

Is everyone in the concensus that the background color should change? If so what hex color are we looking at?

Good job, nice looking site. I think I would try to make the forum match the rest of the site a bit more though. The blue just doesn't seem to fit in with the main page.

What color are you suggesting? I just got the new forum up today.

Perhaps a gold and black combination like your header on the main page, anything that would tend to blend your forum in with the rest of your site.

Any hexes you would suggest? I don't want it too dark. I still want to pull in the white for main context.

Ok maybe do the borders in black, the parts you have in darker blue in FFCC66, and then use something close to that for the lighter areas and leave the white.

I just tried it and it didn't look good. It is okay it doesn't match. The content is good.

Looks nice, but perhaps you could change the font?

Use your colour picker for the hex. That way you can match it exactly to a colour in your header.

I haven't read any other replies, but here's my input.

First of all it looks very warm and welcoming, the colours are nice and it's easy to read. The banner is nice and suits the site accordingly, to me it's lacking some kind of simple border on the bottom though. Just a thin black line would be sufficient.

The font is the biggest draw back though, first of all it's not wise to use underlines, at all. They clutter the text and just look messy, they could also be confused as clickable links. I would replace Times with something like 'Arial', 'georgia', 'trebuchet ms' or 'microsoft sans serif'. Anything but Times New Roman.

p.s. I don't see any indents in your code. ;)

It is now 12pt Arial. What do you think?
