I'm soliciting critiques of my new movie site: Inside Movies

What doesn't work? What could be better?

its good direction u took , good logo ,
the thing is , its a bit over load , too much photos, just too much ...
its hard to get focus on something , the switching images is real nice , but i would advise not to put more images under it.

now don't get me wrong , the web site layout is far out ! and it got a wow effect which is great , just like i said a bit over load,
when someone is visiting a web site he want the webmaster to navigate his attention , on this web site, i felt like a lost child on big shopping mall

bottom line
less images , more easy text navigation options
i would also make a nice header and lose the ad on the top, you will get very low ctr for it anyway

thank you very much. lately i was thinking the same thing: that it might be too visually busy. i've thought about darkening that strip of teasers under the navigation bar. if they're darker, they might not distract so much attention from the page's content. then, when the cursor hovers over a promo image, the image would light up. i think would be an improvement.

when you say lose the ad on top, do you mean the text fandango image or the google leatherboard? i first assumed you meant the fandango text ad, but what do you mean by a nice header? you said you liked the logo.

i've put a lot of work into this and want to make it as good as i can. i'd benefit from your opinions.

It does look professional though. When I first clicked on it, I didn't think it was the right site.

The ad at the very top of the page is annoying. It distracts me a lot, has my attention on that instead of the site. Also the menu bar's font is kind of small. Maybe bump that up a few notches (not a whole lot, just slightly).

Thanks guys. I've changed it a lot since I first put up the review request. I'm definitely still soliciting opinions, though. It's better than it was before. Thanks for helping me make it better still.

That's two votes now against the banner ad at top. Guess I should consider losing it. There's a part of me that thinks seeing movie ads on a movie site makes it look legit. Some of the ads feature video, which I know can be distracting. I would find them distracting on a different kind of site, but on this kind of site I was thinking the video ads added a sense of excitement and 'movieness' and were a good thing (as long as they don't pop out at you, make sounds or cover content). But I'll reconsider.

I'm glad you think it looks professional JayMay. I'm doing it from scratch (without one of those ready made templates), and it's all trial-and-error, so I really appreciate everyone's views.

(By the way, I know the contents needs updating. I've fallen a bit behind.)

Inside Movies

Hi,

It takes a bit more time the movie to load. Funcationality quality is OK just like YouTube.
But when we move thecursor inside the moviel panel the colour changes which is tobe looked into.

otherise OK. I rate the this site from 1-10 as 5.0

Thanks Ezhil. The color changes when you move the cursor across it because each of those movie stills is a button. I made the color change so that the user would know to click. The buttons take you to a page that has a movie synopsis, movie info and sometimes a review, along with links to the movie's official site and to a page of movie stills, and sometimes to a page of trailers.

You're the first person to mention this as a problem. If anyone else is listening, please chime in: Is it confusing or does it look like a defect to you that the movie stills change color when the cursor moves over them?

I think that the menu should be not that thin and the google ads should be somewhere else ...

thanks kifli4ka. i'll see about changing the menu today. i'll also give serious thought to designing a full header and getting rid of that google ad. enough of you have spoken against it that i realize now something must be done.

thanks, simon. yes, it's all original except for the fandango stuff on the 'opening movies' and 'movie trailer' pages and the stuff on the 'box office' page. it being all original is the reason i've fallen behind in updating it. i've cut back quite a bit on the original content, but i might need to cut back more. i need to find a way to streamline it so that i can spend more time on the aspects of he site i consider important and less time on everything else.

Looks good. It takes a bit more time the movie to load. I like content. Menu is thin. But over all your site is quite appreaciable.

thanks, sandtree. yeah, i notice that the menu is much thinner on some browsers than on others. i havne't figured out how to fix it yet.

someone else mentioned that it takes the movie more time to load. is it a couple of seconds or longer? are you using broadband?
