I have stumbled on to something which is somewhat shocking and affects all of us. There are several forum members who have assisted me in the end of my investigation and know that this is true what I am about to say.

I have generated a long list of 3 letter domains i was following and knew exactly when what was expiring when and knew therefor when approx the drop dates would be. I back ordered these domains through all the major drop catch services so increase my changes. So far so good you probably think, right?

Most of the domains never ended up on any drop list, not on the one od pool, snapnames etc. They simply were not mentioned anywhere however when adding these domains to my snapnames and pool accounts I could see that these domains were in fact dropping that day or the next day for example. Why werent these names placed on the lists I wondered in the beginnning.

Domain after domain dropped and although I was listed with all main drop services including those that were affiliated with the original registrar, not once did i get even into some form of auction so I couldnt understand which drop service was catching these names.

Then finally I checked with one domain that had dropped to see what happened with it and it was transfered to the name server of pool. Thats funny as I had a backorder with them but they told me they were unsuccessful in catching the domain. (remember this domain also was on no list anywhere). So now i smelt BS. I then started tracking each and every domain that I had backordered over the last few weeks and that had dropped but that had never appeared on any list from any drop service or registrar.

And after carefully going through whois data etc and searching through face company names etc, I discovered that I was able to track nearly every one of those domains to two people / organizations who are big heavy weights in the registrar and domaining business. I have been able to connect these buyers to owners of registrars and drop services and I will probably end up getting shot LOL but seriously, this is ****ed up. I know some of you might thing i am drunk or something but I swear that I am speaking the truth.

I mean just think about it logically and ask your self these questions:

1) Why are a good number of highly valuable domains that are dropping each day not appearing on any of the drop lists?
2) Why does it seem that a drop service catches domains for the same people while others that have backordered the domain (ME) as well never even get invited to any form of auction or whatever. (This is really rigged)
3) How can it be that 13 out of 15 lll.com and lll.net that expired over days all end up with the same guys and that snapnames, pool.com etc were unable to catch it for me. Who is then catching all these great domains suddenly?

Something else what is somewhat funny and is related however I am unable to explain at this moment is the official Icann list of registrars. http://www.icann.org/registrars/accredited-list.html

Do me a favour and clicks one a large number of links of US registrars and Canadian registrars. Many either dont work or all get forwarded to the same couple of registrars and especially to Enom. How unproffesional is this of Icann that they cant even keep their list of accredited registrars updated as it seems this hasnt been done in many years. This is a laugh. These guys are the ones supposed to keep the internet going in a proper fashion.

Last but not least, guys read this, you be suprised. Its from the Icann round table meeting in Marocco where all the big damainers, registrars, Icann etc met to discuss the business. Funnily the people that i traced to buying all these domains lately were also present :hehe:

The big guy at Demandmedia, Paul Stahura, which owns Enom and which focusses on getting great domains so as to run ppc ads on them, came up with a great plan which basically suggests that only the domains should drop which are worth less then reg fee and that they should money out of the good ones and split revenue with Ican, registrars etc. Thats horse.shike
http://icannwiki.org/LongTail_Domain_Proposal

Well with this I sign off, I am completely fed up with this BS. I think the feds should do an investigation as this is certainly illegal as they are (have) created a possition at which they completely controll all segments of the market and the release a good name here or there to keep us normal guys happy and we start bidding like idiots on snapnames for a mediocre domain.

From a business standpoint, its indeed better for them to retain the domains.

It would, of course, be nice if they actually informed the public.

However, they do have the right to do so.

Who are you talking about exactly? Its not the original registrar that has the domain and not the original owner. It was caught by the catch service which tells me that they were unable to catch it while meanwhile they did and a contact of theirs owns it and used multiple fake aliases?

This is not legal I am sure as the original registrar is gets a % of the purchase and without any auction then obviously the value is less. Anyway, this is still illegal in other ways as well. I am sure that there are laws against this as this means basically that no valuable name will reach the public ever. This is bullocks

Any futhermore, it the Icann contract with the registrars it does mention that the registrar must put the name for deletion after a certain time if the domain holder does not renew it. Its not theirs to keep.

That is Stunning!!!!! Great work on all the tracking. I'm very sure there is a large amount of Fraud going on in the domain world and you uncovered a BIG ONE. I would save all the info you have gathered and present it to the BBB or Feds or send all your info to Bob Parsons, because I know he will raise some stink about it (if he's not in on it LOL). Please keep me informed as to what you do about this or if you need any help.

I am not sure what to do exactly with all the information. Myself and a fellow forum member have had some laughs with some registrars as we also discovered domains which has expired years ago but which are still being used by the registrars as paid parking pages. They were a bit shocked to get questions about these domains all of a sudden and tried to BS their way our.

If anyone knows what to do then let me know. I am new to this domain biz but smelt from day 1 a big rat. (I only started a few weeks ago) I have had experience with tracing transactions though in normal business life so it was a good hunt.

About Bob Parsons, to be honoust there wasnt much that I found connected with him but I did find many roads leading to several of the top 5 registrars as well as catch drop services and a variety of companies that make money with generic domain names. It seems that they all have a piece of each others pie.

I understand what you mean.

They caught the domain, they have the choice to render the service to 'staff' or 'premium' users first.

Staff may of course refer to their bosses ;)

Review the terms of agreement, I'm sure they have something there to save themselves.

well you can put anything in a contract, still doesnt mean its legal though. Lying to my face might not be legal but sure pisses me off. I am talking about upwards of 30 or so LLL.com and LLL.net in the last week or 2 that simply dont appear anywhere INCLUDING 2 x LL domains. I means what the whole use of this if there is no way that we can get any decent domain as each and every valuable domain goes straight of the market into their own pocket. Thats corrupt and I am sure that there are some US laws against having a monopoly on this. I do hope that we can bring a halt to this as what you are basically saying means that they take what they want and we have the leftovers. On top of that we also have registrars who simply keep the domains in expired status and just sit on them and dont send them for delete as they are receiving good revenue from those domains through parked ads. This is bullocks

Nice little piece of work, it's been long known that the domain name business is crooked and manipulated by the higher authority. Alot of people believe that the domain name industry will keep steady pace for years but the truth is that slowly but surley the little people will be phased out of the real game. Soon the domain name industry will be run completly by the big dawgs squeezing every last penny out of every name they can. Unless people start opening their eyes and standing up we are going to lose this industry to the giants like every other business.

Dude just imagine. We all know how popular the 3 LLL domains are and to a certain extent the 3 LLL .net and every few days one drops and 50 people end up bidding against each other at crazy rates. What if I tell you know that on certain days there are like 5 or 6 dropping and they dont appear ANYWHERE as far as I can see and backordering it through snapnames, pool etc is no use.

I asked the other day to one of the catch services what exactly happened to this one domain. They told me the other one caught it. I replied to them: Hmmm, interesting as I had it backordered with them as well. I asked some more questions, no answer, i followed up, still no answer. No answer from the other service that caught the domain either. Meanwhile the domain is save and sound on the Grand Cayman Islands along with all the other great domains.

Stop moaning.

They have the legal ability to do so.
Laws regarding domains differ from country-to-country as well.

Read their insightful disclaimer, they do not assure the accuracy of information provided.

Theres not much you can do about it; this also happens often in other industries.

This is incredible. Why sit there and let the abuse happen? If everyone was like you then we would still have the russians in eastern europe or AH ruling europe. Dont just sit there and let them abuse their powers. Come on, what a bunch of horse manure. This is really pathetic. How dare you accuse me of moaning and thereby suggesting that I am talking about some small unimportant issue.

Yes it does happen in other industries, guess what happens, they go to JAIL. Ever hear of insider trading. SO please man, dont tell me this is legit.

Without them, you wont even have a chance to catch small domains.

There is no use getting angry, agitation brings you nowhere.

Agreed, we shouldnt be ignoring them, but sitting here moaning wont solve anything.

A more rational way to have an action plan, such as creating an online petition.

Online petition and give it to who? These guys like schilder, lau and the Kuwaiti are all making milions and millions each week because of this.. I am sorry but I came here to let you all know what i discovered. Its not like I have been sitting here for ages complaining about this matter.

And I wont be gratefull for them for allowing me to catch dxufcs.org or .net. They can keep that thank you very much. Dude, this aint legel as its rather similar to insider trading on Wallstreet and that is a criminal offence for good reason. Its just that domaining is not a big item for many otherwise this would have been stopped by the feds a long time ago. I am sure if we could find someone at the proper authorities who showed some interest then I think we could be in for a big suprise.

There is loads of fiddling* going on in the world every day mate, it's all part of life. These companys on the net get so big they can do what the fook they like.

That's life buddy, live with it, there is nothing anyone can do to change it.

* = Slang word for doing something you really shouldn't be doing.

I understand what you mean and i can see what you mean but the idea of just doing nothing is something that I cant accept. I remember as a small boy going to Prague to visit relatives and my parents saying that things would never be back to normal there as the allmighty Russians were in controll and they would be there for the next 100 years. Forwarding 10 year... Its 1989 and a protest organized by very simple students brought the might Russian occupation force to its knees. Hmm lets see... Russians with Tanks, Guns, Bombs against unarmed students.. who would have ever picked the student as coming out as the winners. Does it look like impossible against the big companies, YES, is it impossible, HELL NO

You must learn to cool down.

This is part and parcel of life - its always, never fair.

I won't mention names here, but there are many corrupt officials that get away with it.

Theres nothing you can do, at theres just too many for you to be able to care.

Honestly, being angry at them does nothing good.

This is a NICE piece of news for me.

I havent faced a problem such as this. I have got what I've wanted always.

I guess you are right. Still sucks. Well I hope I can in the end give my research to some officials who might be able to open an investigation. Reminds me of something funny I encountered the other day while doing my little investigation.

I saw on recent registrar activity reports frequently the registrar Belgium Domains listed high on the registration list of new domains. I remember thinking that it must be some belgium registrar. Well guess not lol. Its funny that a registrar registring some many domains has no option on their website for any one to registrer a domain. They have 3 or 4 companies with the same postal address and website design and none allow for registrations.

Bizarre..

Well composed and structured argument, if a little paranoid..

You mention POOL and other drop services bagging these names and maybe keeping them for themselves. So what..? Just dont use them. POOL does not have any charter that says 'when their appointed registrars successfully acquire a name for them, they must offer the name to anyone else'.

Just like if you offered a drop service and also (like POOL does) had arrangements with every moody registrar out there, if Sex.com dropped i expect youd also say to your customers who backordered it, "sorry, you were unsuccessful - please go back to backordering names for $80 that were going to drop anyway"

I havent used POOL for maybe 4 years. Ive known about their, lets just say, questionable business practices for what seems like eternity and it sickens me every time some major scam is uncovered and guess whos at the bottom of it, POOL. From the multiple bogus registrar scam at the last .EU landrush .. Hijacking whois queries with another of their bent partners and registering the name first.. And catching every single domain that drops to test its traffic for 5 days because of some refund loophole that was never designed for this crap.

They are the lowest of the low and I would recommend no-one even consider using their services

Perhaps the registrar is doing domain reselling and speculation on a large scale basis.

Good that you have finally stopped arguing, I thought it was esculating into a flame war ;)
