As a newbie, If I'm interested in registering a domain name today, and subsequently selling within a few days, is this rule the stardard with all domain transfers:

According to Go Daddy, the following regulations apply:

"ICANN regulations prohibit transferring a domain name that has been registered or previously transferred within the last 60 days".

If this is true, then generally how are domain sales managed? Is this just an undstood rule with the buyer? Please advise. Thanks.

That's a standard rule set by ICANN for all registrars. You can still push or transfer a name to another person's account within those first 60 days. You just can not transfer the name to a different registrar within the time period. For example, if you buy a domain at Go Daddy, then you can't decide two days later that you'd like to transfer it to RegisterFly. You'd have to wait those 2 months to transfer it out to a different registrar, however you can still sell the name and push/transfer it to the new owner's account. :tu:

I hope that clears it up for you and Welcome to NamePros. I wish you the very best of luck with getting into the domain Industry. :)

if you can sell the name in a few days...hand over the whole account to the new owner!!

60 day rule limits registrar changes. You can still do ownership changes at most any registrar, GoDaddy included. At GD, use the account change feature to push the name to the new owner rather than turning over the whole account.

You could resell it 2 minutes later if you wanted.

Yes, as long as you are just pushing it to another person in that register(ex... godaddy to godaddy). You would have to wait the 60 days if you transfered it to another register(ex godaddy to namecheap).

Why is this 60 day thing made? I see no advantage to it...

It's done so that someone can't hack someone's account and transfer a name to a different registrar and keep transferring it from one registrar to another to hide their tracks. It's a security measure to prevent domain thiefs from covering up their trail by going from one to another within a short amount of time. There would have to be some kind of rule, otherwise everyone would be bouncing around if there were no restrictions in place to prevent it.
