Interested in any appraisal estimates for Edify.org. I have a party who wants to purchase for a family evangelism site.

Thanks

Can I give you a little advice?
If he asks you to pay for an appraisal before he buys it say no.
It could quite possibly be a scam.
how much is he offering if you don't mind saying?

Are you sure it isn't a scam? Did their email look like this below or some form of it ? They will then ask if you want $5,000 or $10,000 or higher. Just be cautious! Take care

Hello,

I'm interested in your domain name listed for sale.

Can you drop me your desired price?

If I can afford it I'll reply.

By the way, did you receive offers from other buyers?

I run a software development company. Selling & buying names is not my
main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional
income.

Please keep our correspondence confidential.

This was the opening email from my scammer

Hello my name is Steven Strand ,i am the administrator of marketing choices, a
small but busy website design and hosting company in the okanagan valley.
Well to get right to the point i have a client that wishes me to purchase on
their behalf your domain name supergenius.info
what is the price you are currently asking for this domain
I AM willing to pay any reasonable amount to aquire this name as soon as
possible

Looking forward to doing buisness with you
Kindest Regards
Steven Strand

Then here was his last one that he wrote I got this one then I emailed him back and told him I now knew he was trying to scam me. and was not going to sell it to him.

There is another important issue for me. Some of my friends lost money after buying stolen names. Others had problems with trademarks. So I must be sure you are the real owner and your domain name has no trademark conflicts.

This is a serious problem for the whole domain industry. You can read about the problem at
http://www.stopscum.com/archives/i_j..._was_easy.html
More information about trademark conflicts can be found at
http://www.patents.com/dno.htm

I hope now you understand why I need to verify this information before we go further.

I made my online research and found two reliable services we could use to verify your domain name.

First service URL http://www.legalzoom.com

But their service "WorldScan U.S. and International Search $499.00" is very expensive for us.

I found a cheaper service - http://www.domaincheckers.net/domainchecks.htm
These guys were recommended as Internet security professionals. Looks like this service is unique because I've not found anything similar in the Internet. They will verify your domain through the stolen names database and will run other tests. I'm not a lawyer and need a professional opinion on the trademark issue. After we check your domain name we'll proceed with the payment through paypal or the service of your choice. This "check domain" service allows to split the fees 50% / 50% between buyer and seller. The fee is $110 dollars or $ 55 dollars for each party ,the buyer and the seller. I thinks it's fair.

When the results come back from them and everything checks out alright with your domain name"and im sure it will" I will be more than happy to add the price you paid for the domain name checking service to the price i am paying for the domain, please understand i am not trying to be diffucult i just need to protect myself and my client from having any issues with this domain.I hope you understand.

They will verify your domain through the stolen names database and will run other tests. I'm not a lawyer and need professional opinion on the trademark issue.
They will email us the results within 1-2 business days.
Please let me know if you are aggreable to this.

After everything is checked out and i make the payment to you for your domain name,i will put you in touch with our tec support person Sara Hearst, she will handle all the details of transfering the domain over to our registry. She has assured me that as long as the domain is registered in your name there should be no problem transfering it over.

Kindest Regards,

Steve Strand

Actually, this inquiry came from a ForSale link on the parked page at GoldKey. It's probably legit (I have received the unsolicited scam stuff before). I sold 4 names last year from listings at Afternic but they all had prices posted and none were ORGs. I'm just unsure about general price ranges on even good dictionary names under this extension. I feel this one has good potential under the intended use. Thanks for the comments.

I too have recently received a series of emails from Steve Strand with very similar wording. I am playing this VERY cautiously and have declined his usage of the "verification" service.

Instead, I suggested the use of Sedo to broker the sale. I doubt I will get a response from Mr Strand. If you receive an email from Steve Strand: e z e w e b @ g m a i l . c o m, beware!
