Wow, after doing some research, you're absolutely right. I was dead wrong. This is a highly protected "Registered Trademark" that the owners take very seriously to any potentially confusing dilution.

But it don't have value because of the trademark and not because the extension. .COMs is really good and I'm sure is the best extension but is not the only one that can have value. Every extension have value with the right keywords.
