Why would you want to purchase such a domain in the first place? I agree with Abel its a TM thing.

Take a look around the forum for advice and posts,look at the domains for sale and you will get a better idea what to register
And get rid of that domain (DELETE) The Big M is ruthless with tm issue.

Couldn't he offer to GIVE it to Microsoft, for free? Say something along the line he didn't want anyone to get into trouble for TM infringement, so he took it quickly to GIVE it to Microsoft?
