What do you think...build out the site over the next year, maybe put ads on it? Or just sell this domain?

If you are someone patient, unlike me, you can try developing a website and building links. With some effort, you can get it on the first page.

Seeing that "Halloween Costumes 2011" has a monthly search volume of "40,500" You can make some money from Adsense with the right strategy.

Good luck.

This domain assaults and batters the controversial 14-Character Rule of Domainsโ„ข.

In my opinion, domainers are too fixated on keyword combinations. It has been proven time and again that site content and not domain content rule the roost at Google. A high quality content-rich Halloween website (or site section) will beat out a site that is content rich in name only each and every time.

This domain simply is too long. Imagine that you're at the store and your car breaks down and you live only a block away. You would walk right? What if it were three blocks? Three miles? Thirty miles? At some point you will need to call and get a ride. The 14 Character Rule tells domainers when to call and get a ride. And this domain needs a call and the ride (aka Grace Delete). IMO.

Hope this helps and best of luck in the future.....

Amen! Heck, even without the 2012 in it, had you followed this 'domaining rule' (known to no-one!) you would've known that even HalloweenCostumes.com would be a bad reg. It has (ghast!) 17 letters! This (wtf? constructive advice??) should definitely be followed to help ones assessment of a domain's value. (good grief.)

low $xx

I'm not saying you can't rank well with a violation domain only that it's not necessary.

A shorter domain name will provide much more benefit from a traditional marketing standpoint. The trap that many domainers fall into is thinking as long as they get enough keywords into their domain name it will rank well. This is certainly not the case.

I don't think the 2011 search hit you're referring to is due to the domain name length, but rather site content and SEO. IMO

a violation domain

:talk:

WTF is a "violation domain"?

someone always comes out the woodwork with new mind trick for the nonknowing

if it's based on some 14 character limit, then i'd say dismiss any advice these people giveout.

"hawkeye" makes solid point, listen to it!

as for an appraisal, after 2012, what's it worth?

what's the traffic like so far, if any?

WTF is a "violation domain"?

One that shatters the 14-Character Rule of Domains. A rule that makes the Internet greener, more user friendly, and puts less wear and tear on keyboards Worldwide. IMO.

$0-regfee reseller on the name alone, IMO.
The 2012 kills this one and gives it a one year shelf life.
Possibly low-mid $xx on eBay or similar type auction site.
Any real value will have to come from development.
:imho:

In other words - nothing domain value related! Just a justification of your condescending appraisal 'shots'.

As you never have made/noted any clarifications of, or exceptions to, your 'made-up rule' (that NO-one in the industry has ever heard of except you), it's your contention that domains like HalloweenCostumes.com, MesotheliomaAttorney.com, CarInsuranceQuotes.com, etc. etc. should be considered as wasteful bad regs! And your consistently noted appraisal advise to new domainers, and not so new domainers, is that any domain over 14 characters is a 'violation of a rule' of domaining, should not ever even be considered, and not only is a waste of money, but is a problem for keyboards. ..ohhh..kaayyy.., you're helpful.

The bottom line is that if the op had followed the rules, this bad reg never would have occurred. IMO
