There doesn't seem to be any thread about this, so I start a new one...
I just read that the .pk domain (Pakistan) will be opened for registrations
at 31 December. As far as I understand it they'll run a "sunrise"-program
(like .EU), but from 10 January it will be open for ordinary registrations.

For more info see: http://www.pknic.net.pk/

Just telling in case someone wanted a .pk :)

Odd, it works just fine for me. I even tried using a web proxy, to be sure it
worked somewhere else....

Someone certainly will. After all there will be a few nice names to
register once it starts.....

I don't think I will buy any though, too much trouble
(and 18$ for one domain is a bit much...)

Good luck to anyone intending to get those domains! :)

At http://pknic.net.pk/sunrise/ it says:

The Sunrise Program is now closed. The results of the third and final Queuing Period will be available by Nov 20th, 2005.
name.pk Domains Registration without the trademark requirement starts on Dec 31, 2005

From what I can see, .pk 2nd level registrations are not available.

.com.pk .net.pk have been available for a while.

From 31 Dec, .name.pk will be avaiable.

If anyone has found more clear information, please inform us!

If you got to the page hxxp://pk5.pknic.net.pk/pk5/registernpk.PK , you can see this

"Note: This domain form is only for name.pk domain applications. Other .PK domains e.g. name.com.pk are registered using the standard domain form.

So every where they are mentioning the "name" , so from this we can confirm that we will be able to register .pk domains.

Also you can confirm the same from the below note .

"name.pk" domains are .PK domain names without the standard suffix such as .com.pk, .net.pk. These domain names are available for registration from Dec 31, 2005. In the initial phase (Dec 31 to Jan 10) the registration is not done on a first come first served basis. Thus, all valid domains applications that are submitted before Jan 10th will have an equal chance of registration."

Hope this helps!

For these accounts, who want to register multiple domains, a credit of 100% additional domains will be extended. For example, if a user has deposited funds for three domains in his PKNIC account, he can submit domain applications for six domains (i.e. twice as many domain applications are allowed as the funds in the account).

The balance payment, if any, must be received and cleared by their bank within 10 calendar days otherwise the awarded domain is canceled and allotted to the other registrant in the queue.

REFUNDS: If the required domains are not available, the funds in the PKNIC can be refunded if request no later than June 1, 2006. After this date, the balance is not refunded and can be used to register or renew .PK domains.

So if you deposit lets say $200 then you may apply for 8 domains? If you are awarded all 8 domains you'll have to deposit another $200 in 10 days. Am I correct?

Yes, If else they will provide it to other registrant. But make sure the order of the domains in your application is according to your liking.
In that way if you do not pay the balance $200 in 10 days, the last 4 domains will be allotted to the next registrant in the queue.

Isnt it illegal for them to charge more for people outside of pakistan? I've never heard of such a system elsewhere.

well i dont know if it is illegal. It is just their policy. But it is great to hear that they have this extension.
