Phpbb "profile" help

I added the field "user_stripe_color" to my phpbb users table (phpbb_users).

I now want to add the option to change it to the profile page. IE: a user can edit their stripe color in their profile. I also want to add some other fields in to the profile page at some time.

Can anyone tell me who to do this.

The stripe color is either user defined, or #AB0B15, but it needs to have the "#" removed before going into the db! :D

I think there is a mod over on phpbb.com that lets you add custom profile fields, have a look at how it works.
(or it could be for smf, i'm not sure, lol)
