I need a way to password protect PHP pages in a website. I am new to PHP, but I have noticed that there is a lot of open source scripts out there. A cheap and secure way of doing this would be helpful. Thanks.

Interakt

Hey there,

If you are using DWMX (Dreamweaver). Interakt have some great extensions, including password protecting pages with user login.

You can have different user levels allowing people to only see what they are supposed to. I've used it on a site I designed: http://www.theirishdanceplace.com

If you go to: http://www.interaktonline.com they have lots of fantastic extensions that are very handy. I have nearly all the extensions that they offer. Really easy to use!

Hope it helps,
Danny

If you don't have DWMX and you'd like a hand protecting pages, let me know and I can sort something out for you!

I made a post over at WebDesignForums.net and it should help you:

http://www.webdesignforums.net/php_and_mysql_67/major_problem_connecting_to_database_19076.html

It started off with errors connecting to MySQL Databases, but, just read it, it then goes on to PHP and MySQL logins. The majority of contributions were made by rosland and Wired who are both PHP experts, they know their stuff!

Also, the database is completely encrypted and secure (as far as I know) so it should suit you just right. I notice you said "I am new to PHP" - well, I really wouldn't advise going straight for a login system. Learn the basics then work up the ladder!

Hope I helped. There are also loads of links about the net, search Google too!
