Photoshop does do vector.

I run into so many arguments here whether Photoshop does or doesn’t do vector graphics. It annoys me to keep telling people that Photoshop does do vector and perfectly too. I found a tutorial to prove it here . If anybody else has links to prove it please provide them here.

you can always change the custom shapes, and also you can use the pen tool to trace pictures without losing quality

Yes photoshop does vector, but there is absolutely no doubt that macromedia programs are better for vector. Can everyone agree there?

Also, flash can save as and I believe open .ai files. So if printeres want .ai, flash vector designers can give them it.

I didnt know photoshop could do vector... so thanks for showing me this, i will be able to defend photoshop from now on. I use them both but illustrator for logos now, thanx will. lol.

It can 'contain' a gradient, but the gradient will not be vector. It will be raster (bitmap).

Yes your right. I just wanted to make sure everyone understood that photoshop can do vector. As I really have heard many people say it isn't. I hope a few good designers have learnt some things from this thread. I have, I have been using flash for quite a few years but never used it to save as a .ai file, I didn't even notice it could. So cheers for that e39m5.

Not 'specifically' I've been in the printing/graphics industry for almost two decades (yikes), and although my experience is fairly narrow, I do have a hands-on working knowledge of graphics and how they perform in various media. But mainly, I've been a self employed entrepreneur since 1986 and have worn many hats along the way... domains and web development just happen to be my current favorite venture (and will be for a long time to come, I'm sure).
