I've owned this for some time, bit of content on the site but I don't do anything with it. Wondering what it's worth? Would really love some ideas from the forum, thanks in advance!

Wow. Great category killer domain name!

A forum could work, but how would you monetize it? Ads? Parts store?

Have you tried reaching out to nation wide phone repair service companies such as ifixit or ubreakifix? Possibly a large phone insurance company such as Asurion? Or maybe a company that specializes in phone refurbishments?

I imagine this domain has received some decent offers over the years? traffic? maybe an email or two from somebody asking you to repair their phone?

Thanks grilled. Ah the "M" word...

I've thought about lead gen, parts, affiliate for repair services etc. Problem is I've got another fast growing business and don't have the time to get stuck into developing it.

Quite a lot of phones can't be repaired or get thrown away, so it could be a good time to sell them a new phone, sell insurance, sell a trade in for money type thing, just a few thoughts.

Do you think it is worth building out?

I have had a few offers yes :)

Sounds like a pretty tough business. If you just want out, maybe your killer domain name can help you sell.
Have you had experience driving traffic to the site, or was your business mostly local and this just evolved?

Good luck whatever you do. Curious, what's your other business, if you don't mind sharing.

Quite a lot of phones can't be repaired or get thrown away,

For the past decade or so cell phones have been improving year after year. As such manufacturers have been continually raking in cash on the backs on their new models.

Today, new iPhones cost as much as $1,000, and budget options such the moto g4 cost under $200 have similar computing power. I mention prices because, paying $100 to repair a $200 phone doesn't make much sense, however, paying $100 to repair a $1,000 phone does.

With a category domain such as this, I think you need to look at the industry, and where you see the future of it heading. How much longer will phone's be a thing? Will the form factor change? What is the future of phone screens? How will AR and VR alter things? Will phone prices continue to rise with the more features being built in such as VR? At what price point do phones need repairing? Has the phone repair business surpassed the tv repair industry?

Are you familiar with the sale of CellPhoneRepair.com for $33,700? The current domain is used by a company with over 400 cellphone repair companies. Though they may value the longer domain more the yours due to the specific branding. More on that sale HERE

Do you think it is worth building out?

Building it out as what?

A lead gen? Are you familiar with revenue models such as TvRepairman.com? I think their model took a hit in google's panda updates (not fully sure) but at one point that site was killing it! But the TV market shifted, and at one point this niche took a hit.

A forum? IDK. How will you monetize? I think there could be something to this if you partnered with a parts store company, and within the forum you have recommended competitively priced parts for each repairs (or an employee of the ecommerce section) monitor the forum and recommend products accordingly. This should help build site content as well. Do you know what competitors are also in the space? Has a community of phone repairer's already migrated to a subset of the internet?

Do you want to compete with CellPhoneRepair.com and create an on the ground workforce utilizing your own leads that come from building out and optimizing PhoneRepair.com? To answer this, I think you'd want to focus on the market as a whole, before deciding if that was the best use...

A forum on phone repair?

There are some fairly active forums on electronic repair in general though.

I guess if you made it clear it was a forum solely about repair of cell phones it could work. But it’s still pretty limiting. And actually about the only repair average people are doing on phones is the cracked screen replacement. I’ve even done that in the past. Even kids can do it.

I’m just talking about its application as a forum.

As a website for cell phone repair it could work fine.

Put content on it. You can get good original articles at $10-$50 each, videos (don't know how much). Put wordpress website, post articles, videos related to repairs to most popular phones for most known issues, get a highly targeted audience from search and monetize it.

>>Thanks Bulloney - I'm an experienced inbound marketeer, I haven't actively worked on driving traffic to this site.

>>I've built and sold several B2B fibre telcos. I'm working on the 3rd which is experiencing rapid growth. If I do something with the domain I'll have to hire someone to run the site.

Thanks Recons adding quality content and growing visitor traffic is definitely an option. How would you monetize the site?

Thanks Grilled.

I think the market is established and will remain so. IBIS reports :Industry Statistics & Market Size - Revenue $4bn - Annual Growth 3.0% - there's money to be made in a $4bn market. I take your point on longevity but I don't see that as a worry, so often market opportunities sustain when they are allegedly feared dead. Tis is a growing market and has been growing for some time. Google Trends is still showing an upward traffic trend, even with massively increased search volume.

I'm familiar with the CPR franchise and their acquisition of the dot com domain. It was a good acquisition for them they had a dot net domain previously. They are a large business now with over 1000 fanchisees.

I think the angle on build-out is simply to grow the traffic and focus on content. CTAs and landing pages can be added later depending on the monetization strategy.

TvRepairman is interesting. My businesses have been price comparison services for fibre internet. It would be easy for me to implement a high converting landing page and generate leads for a network of phone repair stores.
