Hi Domain experts,

I am considering selling the domain phoneapps.com and wondered what you would consider a reasonable asking price.

I have developed the domain to a degree but I am sure there is a lot more that could be done so I am unsure whether to sell now or to develop it a bit further.

I currently receive about 2,500 unique visitors per month although this is growing - I have almost doubled the traffic every quarter for the last three quarters (is this fast or slow growth?).

From the single google adsense banner at the top of the site I earn about £10 per month (is this good from 2,5k unique visitors?).

So I wonder...
- What would you pay for this site/domain?
- How quickly should your traffic grow for you to be smug about it (or at least pleased with yourself)?
- How much ad revenue is normal per visitor (are there any metrics or rules of thumb here)?

This is too good a name for you to be judging this name as a Domainer. You will never get a full value with that mindset.

Think like a VC. Remove all the above considerations and pitch it where it matters, unless you want to realize just a fraction of its value. This is not where the name belongs. Even for appraisals.

biznews: That is definitely food for thought - Thanks for that. It is very hard to set an asking price for this domain perhaps just for the reasons you mention... Don't know quite where to even start valuing this one though. Don't want to have too high expectations - but don't want to miss out either...

i think you should think very hard about selling this name , it is positioned to grow with the market for apps ......only getting bigger

if you can keep it , i think you should unless you get an offer in excess of 10 k upwards because its not about how much it is earning ......its about how much it will earn in the future, as my apps affiliate name suggests , oneday there will be many earning opportunites for apps

you are in a very competitive market. Many here are forgetting that phone app market is quite crowded now. Most domainers, don't understand the difficulty that a typical developer faces and values every name at xxxx or xxxxx or even xxxxxxx as if money grew on trees

Based on revenues, you are at $500 price range valuation, but if you can manage to get more traffic, that will go higher.

check out ireit.com or even communicate.com aka live current media (owns perfume.com cricket.com & 800 other premium names). They are almost bankrupt trying to develop and make money on these names.

If you get an offer in the earnings valuation range, take it and re-invest. Don't lose buyers by quoting unrealistic prices based on some fantastic and unrealistic future possibilities.
