Hi

I have seen many people crazy about running proxy websites. They like investing money to run proxy websites and that they offer free to their visitors. I am hosting many customers who run their proxy websites while they pay $10 to $22/month for no reason.

Just wondering why are they only after proxy websites where as they can run some other sites and earn more profits?

Share your view please.

Thanx

I've wondered what the appeal is too..

Because they make money? I don't need any reason other than that to run my proxy website.

Think about it this way. All you have to do is slap a banner ad or even an interstitial ad here and there above/between pages the visitor is surfing using your proxy. You aren't paying to host the accessed page, and there is very low overhead. Also, the reason you see so many of them is because once they get big they tend to get blocked by schools/workplaces by the filter so you're not able to access it in order to access other blocked sites, so if you are able to run 4 or 5 different proxy sites, you're in pretty good.

Anyone have any links to places with a little more info on the ins and outs of proxy websites?

I guess because it's easy to make and easier to maintain. You don't have to worry about adding new content at all.

because web proxy sites require huge bandwidth and little webspace compared to your regular site, blog or forum. like any other ventures of course it's for the payment/profit.

if you're a hosting provider offering huge bandwidth with little webspace then you beat other guys offering regular hosting to regular clients.

it's because the huge bandwidth requirement, these web proxy sites are separated from regular web sites so as not to interfere with them.

yeah that's right and not to mention the payment you get if you install the web proxy for your clients, plus also the template mods.

4 letters

Hence, AAAA.whatever

Anything that is only 4 letters long is referred to as LLLL

Are there any other types?

Well sure. LLL is 3 letters, LLLLL is 5 letters, and so on and so forth. I might have misunderstood your question. Please clarify if I did.

Thanks Cancer. As a rule of thumb (because I know you are new) reps are always graciously accepted by the helper as a token of appreciation. But you can exhaust the system if you do it to many times within 24 hours.

Wasnt sure if you knew, so I figured id let you know :)

Also, 'N' is for number, if you didn't know, you will occasionally see domains described as NLN.com or something.
