If a name expired on the 1st of the month at networksolution.com, when will it be availible to the public? Is it 30 days? What time of the day?

I am not sure of the timeframe but I would not assume that it will actually drop, alot of names get tested for traffic before they go back to the public.

if you want the best chance of getting the name place a backorder with snapnames.com ($60) - They will get the name for sure but you may have to go to auction if anyone else has also placed a backorder for it.

PENDINGDELETE
These domains will be made available within the next 6 days.
REDEMPTIONPERIOD
These domains will be made available within the next 31 days.
REGISTRAR-HOLD
These domains are anywhere from 37 to 82 days from expiring. Not all domains in REGISTRAR-HOLD will be expiring.

The domain I am after is hosted at "PENDINGRENEWALDELETION.COM" and is registered by "Pending Renewal or Deletion" and has "REGISTRAR-LOCK" registrar status... and it's been 7 days today since the expiry date... so could it be free any moment?

Place an order with Snapnames if you want the name - It is not likely to get dropped straight away anyway - It will probably get tested for traffic as explained above.

If you type the name into snapnames search box it will tell you when it is going to drop :) use the advanced search

I know for 99% certainty that it gets no traffic, and nobody will want it. (I may be wrong with that estimate, of course!) It's not a big deal to me, but I thought I would educate myself on the process anyway.

I was just curious when it expires for real and I wasn't sure if I kept checking the domain (or checking it in snapnames) would inspire them to keep it longer!

And thanks for this tip! Now I know it'll be near the end of June before it's released!

:) No Prob - checking it in snapnames does definetly not inspire them to keep it longer but it will give you the release date.

So the only way to get a good pendingdelete name is to backorder it to sites like pool and etc?

You might want to read the registrar's prints next time, netsol's in this case. ;)

However, their prints currently say they give a 35-day grace period. If it's not
renewed within those 35 days, they'll check with snapnames.

If no backorder, they'll delete the name. Then redemption period follows.

Judging from this picture, after the domain has been dropped, I have to wait 5 days before my current registrar will show that it is available.

Right now the domain I want has been dropped, the NetSol page no longer loads, and it still shows as taken. So, I must be in that 5 day grace period.

I am also wondering if my current registrar (any registrar really) will detect the domain as taken for a small time period whenever it comes to be that it is actually available.

With one whois I am doing, it clearly says the domain is availabe. On the same page, it also clearly says that it is registered.

What I find odd is that I am not allowed to place a register order until the registrar in question sees the domain as available. That is fine, but do registrars see that domains are available later than they actually are? (That is a repeat question from my previous post.)

No that means the domain is taken and whois (thats not real time) hasnt been updated.

If the domain expired on let's say the 1st, then it goes into registrar-hold in 6 days. This just means your DNS records are out of the zone file so your site and email will stop working. Then it stays in registrar-hold for 30 or 36 days, I can't remember. Since it's with NetSol, if no one puts a bid on the domain during this time, then at the end of the 30 days it will be deleted from NetSol's database and go into a redemption status. However, if someone placed a bid on the domain, then at the end of 30 days bidding will take place at snapnames for the domain. Winner gets the domain.

If the domain goes into redemption, then it stays there for another 30 days. After that, it goes to pending delete status for 6 days. After 6 days, it's dropped from the registry and available for public purchase/snapback.

But, are not both of those pieces of information (the part telling me it is available, and the part telling it is not available) from the whois (which is not real-time)? This is what I do not understand. They are both showing up in the results of this whois page:http://whois.domaintools.com/. It is the "other tlds" part that shows the domain I want as being registered. The main whois part shows that it is available. When I go to my registrars (I use two) they do not allow me to register it because it is taken.

If it helps figure this out, the registrar status is "REDEMPTIONPERIOD".

...

I just put in a backorder via snapnames to try to get it. I guess it is the only way to truly maximize my chances.

Aargh, you actually should've posted that backorder with snapnames before
the domain went into redemption period. I posted previously that netsol has a
35-day grace period for expired names.

Now that netsol has dropped the name in question, all you can do is hope and
wait for snapnames to try to grab it before anyone else does. Signing up with
other backorder services can possibly boost your chances.

Thanks. I realized that before I placed the backorder. (If I was going to place the backorder at all, I should have done it before.) I thought grabbing the domain after it was dropped would be a lot easier than this. Now that I am trying, it is too much of a pain to keep guessing and trying to grab it when it actually becomes available. If I had known about this difficulty, I would have surely placed the backorder beforehand. But, thanks for clarifying this for me.

I am hoping this backorder from snapnames can grab the domain name quicker than I ever possibly could.

I'll look into placing backorder through other services (Pool.com, NameWinner.com, along with SnapNames.com), too.

Just some more thoughts on trying to grab a dropped domain name...

I guess this is a lesson learned.

If you are going to play the "I'll register it before you can" game, you might as well just put down the backorder, and increase your chances, save time, at the cost of money.
