PC to Wireless - What a concept!

This may be old news to most of you, but did
you know, you can quickly make your PC wireless?
Where I live the wireless is free to our guests, but
I have a PC and didn't think it was possible.
So I went to Staples and bought a D-Link, came home
stuck in the adapter, and voila, my pc is now on a wireless connection.

So if you have a computer guy (or girl) that you don't know
what to get them, and wireless is available, you might want to consider this as a gift. - it is currently 59.00 cdn (I got it for 44.00)
My shaw highspeed shows a connection of 10mps as it's normal signal.
The wireless is showing a weak signal (I'm pretty far away from the base)
yet the weak signal is 11mps, hmmm, which is faster still than my ]
high speed shaw...

What a great concept!
Just thought I'd share for those who never believed this possible.
:)

Those adapters are great for everyday use, but I personally don't recommend them for gaming. Get a nice one if you do it -- at first I got a cheap one and it barely stayed connected.

---

$59 Canadian? That's like $400 American! :hehe: (just kidding)

Ah, the gaming aspect - I'm not a gamer so the thought never even entered my head

Good to know though.

$400. American :D

It's okay, I'm still wondering how you can pay in Canadian dollars if you're from Pluto according to your profile. ;)

And I'm not much of a gamer myself, I'm the administrator of a NASCAR Heat online racing league, so I play that every once in a while.

Yeah wireless is quite amazing. I have a whole home network setup at home with up to 5 computers on it at a time with wireless file sharing and printer capabilities.

Wireless is indeed quite amazing. I have a wireless router and no wireless computers connected to it. A bit ironic I suppose. I initially bought the wireless router back when I had an iBook, since then no computers I have owned ever needed to have wireless connections.

Wireless is great Wendy but also keep security in mind when you for instance do your next domain purchase!

Communications can be easily intercepted if you don't take precautions and even then some of the precautions - encryption can be easily cracked.
Be careful what you do online when you are on the net.

Thanks for the reminder Ed, I actually noticed yesterday when I
was purchasing a domain I got the warning box that some info
is encrypted however, it may still be viewed. So after I was done,
I switched back to highspeed (haven't let it go completely yet)
and changed the passwords  Not sure if that was paranoia,
but just wanted to be sure.
So far it's been great - knock on wood!

:)
