Pay For Traffic Programs

Does paying for specific categories with traffic companies really work? Has anyone had any real success with them? I've found with my sites new web design I retain most of my type-in visitors that stumble upon the website. But like everyone, I'm always willing to try new means to increase my traffic. I've had minor success through print publications and good success from PPC's. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.
