I have been thinking of taking some of the domains that I have parked that are doing "ok" (getting decent traffic but bad click thru) and use them with an affiliate site. I think it might work best, if the traffic goes to a nice site with something they are looking for, instead of a site with a bunch of links all over it. I know when I go to a site with a bunch of links, I just click out right away, but if it was a real site, I look around for a while and if I see something that I want I get it.

I just wanted to see if others have tried this and if it does see to work well, what are some good affiliates that seem to work well? I would perfer to just forward the domain with the affiliate link instead of a banner or text link. I know some sites do not want you to do that, but do you know of ones that let you do it? I would think that would have the best rate.

Let me know what you think or have learned. :)

I recently started testing out some of my targetted product domains with affiliates, and the increase is 200%-1000%! Affiliates are working alot better than PPC pages for traffic domains that are targetted for a specific set of products/services.

For instance, let's say you own FinalDestination3.com, which happens to be a movie. Probably, a good way to earn money would be to forward the domain to an Amazon affiliate page that sells the Final Destination 3 movie. A domain like this may only get you 5% of the sale price. And if the movie costs $20, well, you only make approx $1 per purchase. So it may not convert better than a PPC page. But other products may get you $15 per lead. For instance, let's say you have a Netflix typo. If you are making $5-$15 per lead, it may profit you much more than standard PPC!

B-)

Thanks for the imput CFGURU360

I was hoping to here that. I have several traffic domains that are for certain items. So that is why I do not think parking them is the best, but if I point them to a product they want, I would be better off!

The next thing, how do you find the "good" affiliates for Each item? Research I'm sure. lol

If you know one, please post if you could. I think this will help us all out.

No problem! :tu:

Affiliates are probably going to be similar all-around in terms of how much you'll make per sale, etc. Like I mentioned, some products will pay off better than PPC, while others won't. I'm going to post my small list of affiliate providers:

http://www.cj.com - All types of affiliates
http://www.linkshare.com - Similar to CJ (Painful registration process)
http://www.cardoffers.com - Credit Card affiliates

Recently a typo of GameFly.com dropped. Not sure if you are familiar with GameFly.com, they let you rent games via mail similar to Netflix. Well the typo was GamesFly.com. I took a look at CJ just now, and GameFly gives you $15 per person that you signup for the service. Now, if you are going to GamesFly.com, you are either already a member or want to be a member. Most likely "want" to be a member since you made the typo in the first place.

Anyway, just like I imagined, the person that owns GamesFly.com is forwarding to the GameFly affiliate program. Therefore it probably is working out well for the owner.

Thanks again Matt! I will give it a try with a couple of my domains! I am not saying this is the best, but click here to see one that I will give a try. I put a store using Amazon.com . I think it's fitting, but not sure if it's legal. Just because of the domain? ;) I just wish you could click the Picture to order, instead of having to click a link that says, "Click here to go to Amazon.com to purchase" It would look more like you are purchasing from the site. I just think it will make people get OFF your affiliate link and go to Amazon itself?

I think I will give CJ.com a Try. I have heard some good things.

it's a question that has kept me busy for the past weeks as well. much like Jamie, one of my domains is getting great traffic but horrible click through. my guess, i cannot yet validate this though, is that an affiliate page that is designed neatly can increase your profit above anything that a ppc can ever get you. especially if you attach some level of user driven content to it.

I have some erection medication names that I forward straight though to my parent affiliate XL Pharmacy
In many cases, my coversion ratio comes in around 5% on this traffic.
XL Pharmacy pays 25% comission- can you say "Sha-wing!?"
I have developed lot's of erection medication sites, but it is DARNED competitive in that space and you really have to stay on top of your sites to stay ranked. In many cases, if you are getting type-in traffic, you better just try to directly monatize rather than try to build site ranking.

I also use this strategy for some names likeSonyVaioComputers.com and also SonyVaioLaptops.com

I agree with Andrew.

I'd never develop again, unless I had no money to invest. To me it doesn't pay off. I have to pay for hosting, manage/administrate the website, create the files, get visitors, etc etc etc. And remember maintenance is time, and time is money. ;)

If you have the right strategies, you don't ever need to touch development in your life. I personally hate developing.

As a merchant with an affiliate program, I can say that a lot depends upon the quality of the traffic you generate. I've had affiliates join my program, send me 1K surfers, not generate a sale, then quit my program. I've had others join and start selling $800 baseball field covers right away - earning a nifty 12% commission.

As an affiliate of other merchants, my peak conversion rate reaches 11% in the Xmas shopping season. That is, 11 out of 100 surfers are 'buying stuff'. With Amazon, I've had, in the past, someone click through a $5 paperback novel link ( a western ) and buy a $120 rock polishing kit while they are at Amazon - once you get them there, you are getting a commission on EVERYTHING they buy, and if they decide to do all of their Xmas shopping on Amazon, you are going to have a nice commission coming.

When you find the right merchant for your domain, you can make much, much more via affiliate marketing. But, it goes beyond just finding the right merchant. It is also important that you find a merchant that is not allowing parasites into their program. Parasites are, essentially, affiliates that find ways to redirect commissionable sales away from the rightful recipient - the owner of the web site clicked through - into their pockets via mischievious means, such as downloads to the surfers computer, etc. In depth reviews of affiliate programs, quality merchants and parasites can be found at abestweb.com , the largest forum for that specific topic.

It depends what you want. I worked hardly developing one website which is selling pills for sexual problems. it is important to have good SEO skills, ambition and of course time. Now I am converting 1:45 but I get 40% from each sale ( minimum 25$) .

PPC is more simple but the earnings are lower.

I think that minisites are the best way to earn the maximum possible revenue. You don't split the profit with any parking service, you take the whole piece of the revenue cake.

great thread guys . . .

a quick question . . . how do you do the forwarding? do you build a website that automatically forward to a another domain OR is there somewhere with the registrar that you can change to enable the forwarding?

Usually you can redirect a name from your host or just do it with a redirect in a html file.

I think godaddy.com is about the only one that allows Free Forwarding. That is what I do. I use Amazon Astore. I just build the store on amazon's site, then after you are done, they give you a link. Then I just use that link and forward it with my domain and mask it. Kind of like www.MusicPreorder.com I always make sure to Mask the domain as well, which covers up your Affiliate link with your domain. Hope this helps.

Interesting ideas

I think diversity overall is best maybe. I have a few parked domains but I mostly use my extra 40 or so domains for adsense and such and to advertise my main sites.
My biggest problem is time, not having enough time to do them all correctly.lol
I have a decent affiliate program set up on specialtywebservice if anyone is looking for decent commissions on hosting, servers and such.
As I am a growing business I also will be looking for some help in the near future, for income and barter payments
