I live in Las Vegas and most people think of it as downtown only, the strip, but the areas outside of Vegas are the best.
Im was raised in Michigan, so how everything looks out here is just awesome. I want to share a few pics that were taken on recent trips to some very nice places

Note: there are a lot of random pictures but I have a picture happy fiance who was taking the pictures!

First is Valley Of Fire

Then we went to Rhyolite, the oldest ghost town still semi standing.

Just thought to share these!

I find it funny that the strip doesn't even fall within LV city limits.

Oh wow I did not know that. LOL

We have only been to the strip maybe 5 times, and maybe spent 2 hours down there at the most.

LOL

Ugh..where do you get this notion from?

I am a Vegas resident as well. The Strip is very much inside the city of Las Vegas. Maybe you are thinking of how it's not "Downtown" which is a different area.

Outside Vegas also has Mt. Charleston which I can drive to in 40 minute. It even has a skiing resort up there. During the summer I go up for hiking and camping. During the winter we go up for snow playing. It's a blast year round really.

Vegas has more things to do here for families than any other city I have lived in. There is a constant flow of new ideas and entertainment added here. Just recently the entertainment/food revenue intake for Vegas was bigger than it's gambling intake. This place is quickly becoming an entertainment mecca.

I think he means that it the strip is considered its own area. It is regulated by itself separate from the city of las vegas.

I live in Las Vegas too and I stay away from the strip as much as I can. I really only go when i have visitors or get free tickets to shows.

I love it here. I used to live in NY.

From Wikipedia:

The name Las Vegas is often applied to the unincorporated areas of Clark County that surround the city, especially the resort areas on and near the Las Vegas Strip. This 4ยฝ mi (7.2 km) stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard is mostly outside the Las Vegas city limits, in the unincorporated town of Paradise.

Nice pictures...I'm thirsty now.

I lived in LV too. It was OK. I didn't like the wind, flashfloods, and the 110 degree nights. I didn't like Lake Mead. It's ugly. They should have left the land alone. I didn't like zeroscape and Yucca Mountain. I didn't like smoking in supermarkets, et. al. I didn't like the vapid people I met. I didn't like being able to eat, drink, and gamle 24/7.

I did like the wide open spaces like the ride to St. George. I liked the pseudo winter too. I liked the Suncoast. I liked Red Rock and driving Charleston to Blue Diamond. I liked free parking. I liked no lines (off the strip). I liked off hour traffic. I liked seeing my East Coast family more than ever. I liked watching approaching electrical storms and hearing loud thunderclaps. I liked being able to eat, drink, and gamle 24/7.

I love Mt. Charleston. We'd take our pups there when the valley floor was 115+ and would watch the digital temp gauge in the car drop. I think the ratio is 4 degrees per 1000 ft. in elevation.

Here's a little factoid for you. Mt. C. (11,918 feet) is taller that some Alps. I bet you did not know that!
