Many thanks in advance.

I think it would be a very hard sell to a vet....which would be the "only" end-user.

Not seeing any value.
Not necessarily true. The gTLD is marketed by the registry Rightside for veterans.

A lot of European countries lent aid in wars.

If you put it to its intended use, there are out of hours doctor's that will come to assist you (at least in USA) if you're going through psychological problems and need help.

However, if a veterinarian figures it out that it's intended for veterans, that may turn them off to this gTLD.

Clearly a UK thing here. I'm in the UK. I never once saw this as "veteran", I straight away saw it as the vet that treats animals, and also the "out of hours" is British.

Again speaking from my British perspective, this is an utterly amazing name, there can be no better for an out of hours vet!!!!!

Well, if Rightside is marketing this for veterans, it is possible to sell it to a veterinarian, but it defeats the purpose of the intended gTLD meaning.

That's like selling a .com as a ".comedy", .net as in ".networking" and .org as in ".organic".

They simply don't fit the current and most likely permanent marketing strategy. I simply cannot see any use for a veterinarian to own a veteran domain name.

This is coming from a registry that has .Army and .Navy. Why wouldn't .vet, with the current picture promoting it, not be veteran?

It doesn't make sense. But, neither does "out of hours" to the United States. Until @Michelle and @jdab informed me on this usage in Kingdoms and European countries, it makes sense. However, not with .vet, unless it's re-branded over there for veterinarians.

The only usage would be for maybe British doctors to treat veterans at home or on the phone for PTSD, out of hours. Though, without no research, I don't know what the problems are there due to the recent conflicts. I just know what they are in the USA.

A veterinarian is known as a vet in the UK.

Same as in the USA. But that's like marketing New Coke. It doesn't match the intended purpose of the gTLD.

Last point I will debate.

From https://www.name.com/domains/vet via http://rightside.co/registry/:

"Veterinarians and animal care clinics can use .VET to create industry-specific addresses for their businesses. With the right combination of keywords and the .VET domain name, anyone who sees your website address will instantly know that youโ€™re offering information about animal care services."

The .vet logo is a paw print. There is no mention of military veterans (though the rightside site does show the picture of a military lady).

Just made the perfect outofhours.vet even more perfect!

I suppose so. Name.com is a Rightside brand. However if you look at it on Rightside:
http://rightside.co/about/our-tld-portfolio/
It's a woman driving a humvee.
The intended market was veteran.

So maybe the registrar put out that it's for veterinarians with the paw print, but the registry isn't keeping consistency. Either way, it's diluting one from the other. If you use veterinarian and veteran, it's bound to fail. There are no "multipurpose" gTLD's in my opinion.
"We're not an organization, we just sell organic products."

I'd prefer afterhours.vet @ $750/year if anything over this.

It may have value in Europe with the double usage, for now.

Anyway, good luck selling it.

Whether or not the registry intended .vet to be used for veterinarians or veterans... this domain is awful.

If you are an out of hours vet, what's awful about outofhours.vet?

I think it's perfect. I could see an out of hours vet paying ยฃ10K for this.

The term isn't out of hours... Who is out of hours? Dead people.

Read the thread, Buddy.

After Hours Vet = 880 EMS
Out of Hours Vet = 110 EMS

Check the rest of the keywords. After hours is the clear winner.

Thanks, buddy.

You're selling him short! I said ยฃ10K, that's GBP!

Sorry about the currency conversion.. I'm not one of "Europe's aspiring net name entrepreneurs."

So the vet down the street from us, with a .com that has their name, would be interested in a .vet domain?>
I doubt it.
Especially when they find out that their .com is only 10 bucks or so per year to renew as compared to over 800 bucks?
