I'm noticing a lot of developed green names are Orgs. In fact the majority are org. Is this to say that in the world of "green" names that org is king?

.US domains.US domains
.org represents non-profit organisations. Hence, they fit better with the .org extension.

I agree completely .... But wouldn't you say the green movement will have a commercial side that can't be overlooked? If so is this a good time to pick up those names associated with the commercial aspect of the "green" industry ....as it will be?

Will the org have a TM arguement if they are non-proffits?

.org is KING in more markets then just Green! .org will be 2nd to .com in no time if it isn't already.

The largest problem with the internet is TRUST. The .org extension has a built in trust with internet users already. That is Priceless and investors are just starting to figure it out.

Two recent 6 figure sales of the .org extension are starting to make peoples eye's open. I said this Months Ago.. .org is way underrated!

Yup I agree. Green resources need to be free, be supported by non profit organizations to be effective. All major countries are pushing the green idea hard and a lot of organizations are being pro-active in the green initiative. Therefore i see a good future of this particular niche in the .org other than .com.

Got a "green" name today at a very very reasonable price :)

I'm glad people are seeing this. I think that the Web will wake up from their .net love affair sometime soon and realize that .org is 2nd to .com.

.org is most definitely leading "green" domains -- I think it's another one of those "feel good" things. The average person feels like they're doing something right by supporting the environment -- which is synonymous with nonprofit organizations and other groups -- and associate the eco-friendly movement with .org. :imho:

This movement is not for the good of commercial business (.com), but rather for the earth's well-being (.org).

Interesting. How do you determine this? Can you give examples?

The time to pick up good green names of either extension for reasonable prices has long since passed. The demand is very high, and the prices reflect that.

Will the org have a TM arguement if they are non-proffits?
A few years back, the World Wildlife Fund successfully defended their WWF TM against the World Wrestling Federation. That was huge.

Searching for "green" names over the last few weeks. Seeing a larger number of []org for sale with "green" and "eco" names. Wanted names forums here and a couple of other forums with a good number of "green/eco" names wanted posts asking for []org. And most recently have spent a few hours link hopping from a post by Etab here ...

http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/482871-project-orgs.html

You can follow associate links for hours. If you search the names some of the []coms are available still. Thus my observation.

How about com's the king and org's the "New" Queen? :imho: :hehe:

In your searches, did you notice any similarities or differences between org and com pricing? Is there any pattern?

I can say there were very few parked pages with []orgs. There was however quite a few []com parked pages. As for price comparrisaons ..... hard to say with fewer of the []orgs being for sale.

A quick search, at SEDO, for names that contain "green" in both []org and
[]com shows 10 times the number of []coms for sale..

Your search returned 1124 matching domains (green / orgs)
Your search returned 10092 matching domains (green / coms)

This pretty much reflects the ratio I was talking about.

.COM/.NET/.ORG for me still
when it comes to planting or taking an action an organization or a team is called for.
it's not one man's effort.

Now I agree Namenut and Yofie, I believe .org #2 it is authoritative, but let me go to the flipside. Most of the people investing in .org are not going to start a green site to save the planet, they are looking to sell the .org for a profit. Do you think there will be a backlash from non domainers. Meaing if you had GreenPlanet.org, excellent name IMO and you wanted $20,000 do you think people would be like, what a disgrace this name should be in the hands of an org dedicated to a green project.

Now again I am not against selling it and I agree there is the trust, but would the trust be there if a lot of uneducated non domainers think this is in bad taste and it is not right to sell a .org for big money to a organization that will use it for the good of the planet?

I like .org for financial names like Loan and Mortgage. I own some Igeo.org that get 1 or 2 uniques a day like Imontreal.org or Iportugal.org and my main niche tv, I have gratistv.org, hongkongtv.org,britishtv.org etc... all get traffic with Gratis getting like 4 a day which is not big but interesting for a tv.org IMO.
