Org is King when it comes to Green

I'm noticing a lot of developed green names are Orgs. In fact the majority are org. Is this to say that in the world of "green" names that org is king?

Do you think there will be a backlash from non domainers. Meaing if you had GreenPlanet.org, excellent name IMO and you wanted $20,000 do you think people would be like, what a disgrace this name should be in the hands of an org dedicated to a green project.

Yes ......... Even more so than porn. The higher the price the greater the backlash.

I drive a lifted 4X4 on 35" tires and I catch flack for it a few times a week. I'm waiting for the eco vandals to get me. ( LOL ... www.ecovandal[]com is a parked page. the []org not regged.)

I still think there is a commercial side to the green industry that can't be overlooked.
Just facilitating the movement means supplies, materials, advertising, marketing (domain names) etc ....

Even if a "greenie" gets the domain name, for free, then pays 20 k for website design does that mean the design house should be looked at negatively? I don't see all aspect of the green industry being "free". There has to be a support system for the "greenies" to be green. Especially if we all do as they ask and start living green. I think, in the very least, it will be a sensitive niche to deal in.

I preddict a habbit of donating a portion of any "green and eco " related name sales. Kind of like buying carbon credits (lol).

This is an intersting twist to the OP in that I am thinking of developing a green site(s) both commercial and non-profit.
I have the []com and []org to use respectively.

Most organizations are not going to be buying .org names.

Etab shows some examples of what a organization does when it wants a domain for the green market. They put - or / in the name and that way they don't pay to buy names from domainers.

Thats the biggest hurdle.

I know at times a .org sells. I have a few myself. Think about it though, more times than not when you do a search for a green site, you will find these have a dash or slash in the name. I don't think they are buying those names.

I have tons of green orgs in my waiting to be regged list, but I am wary on the demand. With the huge numbers of parked domains at Sedo alone with "green" in them, unless you have some super generic green .com or .org then they could easily just sit idle unless developed that is.

More $ wasted and for what , hype? Its tough not to regg them but one must eat.

I hate when lists like this are produced ..... and you see names on it that you have on one of your old "available to reg" lists

If you look at sales history you will see a lot more green[]com names have sold. And if you look at how many are available for sale you will see green[]coms also dominate the market. Much fewer green[]orgs for sale from what I can see. And a mute sales history. Possibly due to more private sales being made in the []org ext.

This is a great name. Eco or medical this name is a strong []com in a strong eco/health market. IT IS PARKED! Now go to the []org. It is developed. How long do you think the []com will last, or gain in value, in this parking ppc environment writhe with public annoyance and contempt with parked pages..... pages not sites is the key here? I think the developed site will end up the more valued domain in this niche. Great if you can back it up with the []com. lol Imagine that .... pointing the []com to the []org. hmmm

To me this name is a great []com but the []org is king here. Coupled with the growing public awareness and business branding you will see the real "green" players end up with the traffic, members, sales etc. Yes I said sales. I think we will be accepting of []orgs to make sales in order to fund efforts. A transparent accounting and public tally of funds raised will make "Joe/Jan public" accept the practice.

The point has been made, brilliantly I might add, that organizations wont be buying names due to budgets and stigma etc. Well I agree to some degree. However I think as "green, eco, enviro etc" business becomes more popular and branded we will see funding put into organizations, as a politically correct "Vogue" kind of thing, by business, celebrities and government. I can see "green/eco[]Orgs" gaining in clout and prestige soon. More funding, volunteers, acceptance, popularity, celebrity etc..... Just as the same "brilliant" member pointed out, in an earlier post, that the public will trust the []org's inherently over the []com's. Again I agree. I just see commercialism creeping into Org's and it will be OK (acceptable and expected). No more passive model waiting in the shadows for hand-outs.
