I'm planning on opening up a co.nr style service here offering free subdomains, but I was wandering what people thought the domain was worth anyway

Tried many .cg resellers and the reg fee (probably the renewal fee is the same) was about $450. if you develop this doamin that way, you will not get the reg fee money back.
Consideribg the reg fee is so high, I'd say low $1xx if you sell it to a reseller.

Registration is expensive yeah, more like $300 though.

My thoughts were that I could use the offer of a free domain to build an email list that I then use to promote things like hosting etc where there's big commissions. After all if someone wants a domain chances are they'll need hosting too.
