May I know anyone at NP who have an account with Optikhosting.com?

They closed down recently and didnt gave me ample time to backup all my files and database..

About 2 weeks ago they informed me that the server was inaccessible because they are closing shop and yet they never gave me at the time the IP address to access the Cpanel to backup my files..

Only just a week ago they gave me the Ip to access but it was already too late to save all sites including databases (about 12-15 of them)

What I learned from other hosting providers they allow 2-3 months for client access before finally shutting the server.

Can anyone here help request Mr Ron Johnson of Optikhosting to restore back the server and give us ample time (1 month atleast) to backup files?

I hope Mr Johnson will respond to this thread!

Thanks for your help

Two weeks is an ample amount of time I think. And I've let Ron know of this thread. :)

Hi Ariel,

While I'm sorry you did not have ample time to transfer your websites, I gave all clients two weeks notice. The server wide email I sent noted that the server would be closed on September 17th, and that once the server was disconnected there Would be data loss. I received an email from you asking to hold off on the disconnect for several days, and the server was then not disconnected till the 22nd, giving an extra 5 days.

I responded to your email regarding the server ip within a day, however the server ip wasn't needed to access your ftp/cpanel accounts, your old urls still worked perfectly. The only thing wrong with the server was that http was down, all other services were up and working.

As previously mentioned, the server has already been disconnected by ThePlanet datacenter.

You could say that since you are not in my shoes. Ask professional hosting providers out there how long they allow client access before deletion.. I bet only cheap hosting like optikhosting dont have consideration!

Ron

I do understand your side but since you receive payment for hosting my sites you had the accountability to take care of clients esp we have entrusted you our critical data..

After receiving your notice I have several times requested you to move my files to your new host (which you mentioned) but you never responded to my request.

Now I notice you have another hosting which is still optikhosting, you could have easily guided me to move my files.

Now you not only loose potential long term client as well as recommendation to all my colleagues esp at namepros.

Thread moved from "Hosting Offers" to Discussion .... Do not make anymore threads please -

It appears you were given fair warning and plenty of time to move your Data/Sites.
If you got no response from them about moving your files for you - You should have made that a priority IMO ...

Hey.

jamx551; Although everyone always wants more time - sometimes its just not possible.

Something a lot of webhosts stress is that you should constantly be taking your own personal backups - At the end of the day it becomes your responsibility to take your own backups that you can easily access 24/7.

It also comes down to researching these things. I have seen far worse cases than yours - you should really consider yourself lucky.

You're being very unreasonable jamx. I am a host myself and 2 weeks to transfer a site is alot of time. Just because he didn't provide you as much time as you'd like doesn't give you the right to trash him.

Ron is a friend, he doesn't have a new host. Optikhosting's site remains for unknown reasons but he mentioned to me previously that he was moving on to other things and is done with hosting for the time being.

Two weeks is plenty of time to move a site unless that person is just lazy as hell.

Also, there is nothing in his Terms of Service that obligates himself to grant you more time, or to transfer your files for you. That is the client's responsibility 100% on most hosts. And hosts that offer to do that is a privilege not a requirement.

It seems the ball was in your court Jamx. I am wondering why the two weeks were not enough for you to move the sites?
And you were having only less than 20 accounts. From what Ron has explained he has given you extra time on your request. Seems he handled things very well.

Any way, now lets think on what can be done to recover your data. Are you having any backups of your accounts?

2 weeks may be enough for one person with few sites.. but you have to consider the sched of other clients like me and the number of sites he has to backup.

Background : I was so surprisde and caught unprepared when Ron emailed me that the server will be disconnected and it was when I was in the middle of moving to another state. So I requested him to extend but it never happened. All my sites are not simply static sites where I can easily copy at FTP clients but with several databases running in each site, no way 2 weeks is enough esp. Ron gave me the WHM link just a week before they disconnected and that was when we were still on travel.

I admit I had a fault on my for not backup long before this *surprise* for I was too confident that Ron's hosting would stay longer than expected.

But dont you think it was just reasonable enough for him to extend since any professional hosting service Im sure would allow?

In fact I asked him several times in the middle of my trip that if he can transfer my sites in his new hosting (since I learned that he has a new hosting) I would be happy. But he never replied.

So now I still need to get hold of the server to copy my files.. If only its possible for me just to purchase the harddisk which contain my data that would solve it.. Otherwise it would be appreciated if Ron provide the name and contact number of the *Real* hosting where he subscribed so I can contact them myself that is if he isnt able to reconnect the server.

If Ron doesnt care well he has not only lost a long term client but also trust and recommendation here at NP

Ron

I won't think Planet will keep the data in a canceled server. Harddisk would have been formated and used for a new server. So I think it won't be possible to get the data from the old server.
The only other chance is if there is some remote backup for the host and they are still holding that account. From Ron's words I won't think this too is not available. Probably he will be having the local backups.

In that case I need to call here Ron if he has done local backups or if its possible for him to contact Planet since he's a previous client.

I actually tried contacting The Planet but Im not sure if this is the hosting he has account with. They said they couldnt help me.. I thought the reason why they cant help me is maybe because I wasnt their client before .

I won't think there won't be any use even if Ron contact Planet directly. As he had canceled the account with them, I won't think they will be keeping the data and harddisk in tact.

The irresponsibility and lack of professionalism of Ron has cause harm not only to me but also some other namepros members here like diegoid. So just to warn all of you np members about Optikhosting.com you will just get harm than good with that hosting.

Sorry if I'm getting involved when this doesn't involve me. However, I think I've the right to say (as a webhost myself) that 2 weeks is ENOUGH time to move/backup your sites, etc.

:td:

Lack? Least they had the GUTS to let people know the server would be going down 2 WEEKS in advance. Hell, I bet there are people here who wish there hosting company would have gave them a warning like that. No one to blame but yourself.

I think it's time we close this up. Hope a lesson has been learned.
