Last week, Excel corrupted the most important spreadsheet in my business, and I was about to cry/post about it here. But someone suggested that I try installing the free OpenOffice - http://www.openoffice.org - which opens MSOffice documents.
Presto, it worked! The "corrupted" file Excel gave up on opens just fine in OpenOffice. From what I can see, OpenOffice is lean, mean, and gets the job done without all the add-ons that no one knows about and never use, and that use up so much of your computer RAM/HD.
I'll be using OpenOffice on my laptop from now on (I only have once MSOffice license, and its installed on my PC). If you don't have a licensed version of MSOffice, I highly recommend that you go legit and install OpenOffice. After a while, you'll be happy enough to remove MSOffice to make way for more useful stuff like mp3's and pictures.
:tu: to OpenOffice. You guys rock!
