In the digital asset surge, domains, as “digital real estate,” are on the cusp of a breakout. OpenAI’s upcoming AI browser (July 2025 news) with photo and voice recognition eliminates the traditional drawbacks of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs, e.g., Chinese, Arabic scripts), unlocking their vast potential. Compared to Bitcoin—“digital gold” at $120,000 per coin with a $2.4 trillion market cap—domains, valued at just $100 billion, mirror real-world real estate’s 25:1 ratio over gold, with IDNs severely undervalued.
In the traditional browser era, IDNs faced barriers like Punycode (e.g., xn--...) and complex input, limiting adoption. OpenAI’s AI browser changes this by enabling photo recognition (snapping an IDN on a billboard to visit a site) and voice assistants (saying a domain to access it), transforming IDNs into mainstream gateways akin to QR codes. With 6 billion smartphone users in 2025, IDNs have a massive audience, covering 1.4 billion East Asian and 450 million Middle Eastern users with unmatched cultural resonance.
East Asia’s e-commerce ($3 trillion by 2025) and Middle East’s blockchain boom (50% transaction growth in 2024) will drive IDN demand. IDNs can anchor Web3 and NFT projects, like prime Manhattan lots. Low-cost IDN acquisitions today echo Bitcoin’s 2009 undervaluation, with million-dollar returns possible. OpenAI’s AI browser empowers IDNs, signaling a catch-up rally for digital real estate!

Early inability to handle global character sets meant ASCII text domains were standard. But too many people still believe there exist no other options. International Domain Names is a term which reminds me of cultural imperialism in Japan, where humanity is divided between "We Japanese" and gaijin 外人. I've heard Japanese visitors in Oxford on a public bus remarking about the gaijin all around though they themselves were the gaijin. Anyhow, I also hope for easier-to-input IDN.
