One site vs. several

Newbie here...I have a website idea in progress which could be broken into either a large central website with the content equal to multiple niche sites or just have multiple niche websites. I would like to get as much revenue from ads as possible.

My concern with having one main site is a search engine may not pick up key words that it would otherwise on niche sites.

Any thoughts or experience?

these are two different approaches. Either have one major website and give it 100% of all your effords or have 10, 50, 100, 1000 different niche and microniche websites to play with.

It really depends on how you can manage your time. You may make $20/day from one site or $1/day/site from 20 websites.

If you do make just 1 site, the SE will pick up your targeted keywords if you do all the proper SEO work on and off site. However, it might take some more time on secondary keywords, which otherwise would have been picked up quicker if they were the main keywords of a niche site.

I think it's better if you start with one site. If you can earn with it, then use the same method for another one, then another one...

You can make micro-niche sites that points to your main site. That is if the ideas really coincides with each other.

Like what the folks always say "Don't put all of your eggs in one basket". The idea of having a network of websites answers this.

I agree. Having diversity in your online efforts to making money is important. Relying on one website alone can be dangerous and may prove to be unproductive after a certain point.

That said managing just one website can be a lot of time and work. Adding more websites on top of that can be really tiresome and effect your life offline dramatically.

Take care to look into budgeting both your time and your money on your projects a head of time. Doing that will save you a lot, mostly time so that your work is more efficient and successful.
