These can't be registered at all for most available extensions.

There are only a couple out there that are grandfathered in for .com (x.com and z.com come to mind). They have never been available for any new domains.

Try .to which allows one letter domains to be regged by regular fee($50). Of course they were all gone for now. but you may keep trying to see if you are lucky.

That must be a big disappointment for you PROXUS! I had the same experience before with 2-letter org, so sad :(

The sad part is, people are actually letting those two letter .org's expire. They could have made a nice sum of money, considering those domains are never going to return to the market.

If you're quick you can still snag a single IDN letter in .NET or .WS such as é.net,ö.net,ề.net,etc.
I was able to get 20 of the approximately 140 single-IDN letter .COM's,for some reason ICANN didn't reserve them.
A one letter domain is never a bad investment, even if it's new and different like an IDN letter.I find people are usually turned off by IDN's,but they're not looking far enough ahead. As soon as all browsers are compatible (likely less than a year),usage will surge.Sedo's already had 5 figure IDN sales. In April I actually sold a single-letter IDN to a man in China for $3K,so things are heating up!
Anyway,Dotster and Idotz.net are the only 2 registrars I've found that actually let you register a single-letter IDN.Most other registrars automatically give you a default message saying "domain must be at least 3 characters in length".
Good luck if you decide to get one!

I am pretty sure that the char limits are 3 - 63 for most TLD's.
