Once it expires...

I know once a domain expires you cannot buy it at a different registrar at that moment so I wanted to know when it does expire, what exactly happens? Will my domain remain up and running during the time before it drops?

When your name expires it will usually resolve to a page determined by your registrar.
It is at their discretion.

Most registrars allow you 30 days to renew...but they do not have to...I have had names drop 3 days from expiry.....
Bottom line...you are living on the edge if they are names you value.

Ouch, well I made the big mistake of letting someone buy the domain for me and now I don't have control over it and it is locked so I can't even transfer it

expired domains.. you know that they don't really get real free directly after they get dropped, yet you always watch that expiry date.

take it as a lesson....
its more secure to buy it youself....or ask someone whom u are familiar with...
