Old login info doesn't work

So I'm trying to buy this domain off of someone and he's having trouble accessing it to transfer it over. He says his saved log-in info doesn't work and his password recovery isn't valid anymore. What's the best way for him to recover his stuff? He's seems pretty busy so is there anything I can I do to help speed the process?

What is the registrar?
That is where he should start.

i would be suspicious about this - i don't see why he doesn't just get in touch with his regsitar and get a new password/his login emailed over to him. i forgot my password at GoDaddy once and they emailed it pretty quick to the email I had on my account with them
