I am wondering how hard is it to start offering free hosting? I am thinking about doing it on my reseller account as an experiment. I am wondering though how hard is it to automate, and if I want to show banners in the header of the hosted pages, How hard is it to do?

Does anyone know where I can look to get this information?

Thanks

It's easy to start an automated free hosting biz. I would recommend iPanel ... which creates accounts without the need for WHM interface.

Check with your host first. Many webhosting companies frown on running free webhosting on a reseller account. Especially the ones with "unlimited" reseller accounts.

Checked and allowed. I am using a very good host that ensures that everything that I am accolatted I am given. So there is no issue with Free Hosting

if you're thinking of starting free hosting, go for it! However, you must be prepared to pay out of your own pocket for atleast the first few months... and also you should make some way to generate revenue (either from including paid hosting, or putting ads on your main webpage..) DO NOT put ads on the sites of other users..this is a big turn off.

Check out this site: www.pandela.com
See about their free hosting - they're doing a great job out there!

I would say be prepared to pay out of your own pocket for the first year.

Are you kidding me lol....

Starting a free hosting site is alright but even if your host says it is ok if you start having problems with spammers, illegal content and you start using crazy amounts of resources they will shut you down no questions asked. Goodluck :)

And they would be right to do so, if you start a new hosting service you still have to conform to your own hosts TOS and therefore make sure that all of your smaller accounts under you do the same. That would be a given.

There are too many sites to maintain and it is difficult to manage on the long run
