Do some research on his email address as well, you can find out a lot from that, its important to know a few things before countering

1) Does he own others domains, if so, how many?
2) Where is is located? (China, USA, Europe etc)
3) Is it a business email, you can find out a lot even from a random hotmail or gmail address

PM me if you need any help with it

Counter with 20k, if no reply within 2 days send him an email "Just kidding, ill take the 100 bucks"

seriously thou, very fair, always counter a bit because if you dont you are making the buyer think hes overpaying, even if its a small counter

Ask for 13-14 BTC or a 6TH hashlet if he is the LocalBitcoins com guy.

Based on the fact 'LocalBitcoins.com' is taken and developed (plus all the other main extensions taken as well), the hyphenated version is arguably the next best option if you want to own these two keywords.

And as Giles suggested:

"Does he own others domains, if so, how many?"

Use WHOISOLOGY.COM to find out if he does own other domains by typing the buyer's email address into the site's searchbar.

Make counter with $1k-2k. I guess even if its local bitcoin business, he will definitely have better budget than 100bucks. He must have tried for localbitcoins.com also but that would be too far of his budget.

Consider saying to the buyer that you're willing to start a no-reserve auction at $blah1 or sell directly for $blah2. Mention that there will initially be a high reserve but that you'll lower it provided he places the first bid right away.

He may choose to buy directly for more. If not, a 30-day auction will give you an opportunity to see if the market values your domain above that minimum number. That also gives you time to contact other end users. And you can be frank in mentioning that in your response to the buyer.

Both he and you want to manage the risk of overpaying / underselling. So each choice has tradeoffs. You can both accept the offer (as an auction) and not accept it right away (by allowing the buy now or a better auction outcome).

I agree, even if you want to take the offer as it is, make a small token counter offer. Safe strategy.

Say about 40% for small offer amount and 25% more for large offer amount.

This % should not scare away the buyer and will probably get the new price you are asking.

Still gives you middle ground to sell at 10% to 15% more, or even at asking price later.

I have had buyers never come back after seeing a 'huge' jump in the counter offer, sometimes even just 2x to 3x.

2x on small amount is still a big double for an end user buyer, which is why knowing the country of the buyer matters a lot.

As a small domainer, my first inclination is not to miss out a sell. $100 might seem a small amount, but it goes towards renewing 10 essential domains. So if that matters, I would counter low, max 2x, if not, then I would counter 20x high.

Just received an offer of $100 for local-bitcoins.com

Take
Counter
Or disregard

1) Lot of good advice in this thread, on basic research. Specially checking the country by @gilescoley and the Whoisology suggestion by @Magicpig2 , Whoisology is a treasure trove of information. Based on what you find in whoisology, you might be able to easily ask 10 to 20 times more than the asking price.

2) RE my previous post in this thread, my take is, considering there is already a well developed site, the hyphenated version will not be able to compete. Hence I am inclined towards low $xxx

3) There is an exception. It could be owner of localbitcoins, wanting to buy local-bitcoins to avoid a competitor snapping it up, which might get you $x,xxx but again, how will hyphenated domain compete against the existing one, considering it is result #1 for primary keywords, 'local bitcoin', so why would localbitcoins owner care.

Do keep us posted on how it goes. Very interested on how this plays out. Always looking to learn something new.

You register a domain name park the name !
And then you get an offer and you do not know what to do?
Which is the same as first have sex and then ask how to do it:xf.smile::xf.smile::xf.smile:

Hi

initially, that's how it may seem....as I've made same statement before.

however, to pose the question, doesn't always mean one doesn't know what to do, they may just be "humble" enough, to ask for advice from their peers.

or seeking comparable numbers that may or may not be in-line with theirs.

you may know more about that category, than me.

i feel ya, but just saying

:)

imo...
