Noob here. I'm about to sell the dot com domain name I registered in the mid-1990's consisting of a simple 10-12 letter English word with highly positive aura about it. Never used for e-commerce, politics, or active website, only internal use for email and project management for a few long-term professional clients. Automated free appraisals are all over the map and don't seem to reflect any comprehension of the positive value of the word.

I was planning to initially outbound market to the top several dozen larger enterprises that have the word in their company or product names. There are a hundred smaller enterprises that are also possible targets, albeit with smaller resources. IMHO, the word is much better than most of what is being listed these days.

Researching the domain selling process, I discovered the large prices at the January Namescon conference auction and there is a European conference coming up in late June.

Is there any reason I definitely should or should not submit the name for the Namescon auction?

I didn't even know Namescon Europe was doing an auction .. and that more than anything else is probably why it likely wouldn't be in your best interest to put it in an auction that doesn't have optimal reach.

While NamesCon (the Vegas edition) probably has more end users than any other domain auction .. it's still mostly resellers looking for a deal .. so unless you get lucky and have 2+ end users fighting over your domain (remember that they all need to be aware of the auction), then you are losing theoretical "potential end user value".

But if you're looking for a quick sale rather than selling at the best case price .. then it could be an option.

At the end of the day though .. keep in mind that while you'll likely get much advice in this thread .. NOBODY can actually give you anything remotely close to a usable opinion without knowing the EXACT domain name.

The unfortunate truth is that out of a hundred people like yourself coming to NamePros who think they have a super valuable domain .. maybe one of them actually does.

Again though .. the best advice I can give .. is don't listen to anybody's advice who doesn't know the exact domain ... and even then you should be extremely careful soliciting advice .. at this point you're also likely to get a ton of private messages asking questions and offering you all kinds of services .. lol.

Good luck with it .. I hope you indeed have a good one and sell it to an end user! :)

How are we supposed to know when you didn't mention any name? You want us to speculate??

I am simply curious about whether the namescon conference and auction are well-regarded in the domains community. I am not asking for an appraisal/speculation about my domain name, only whether that venue and the company behind it are reputable and productive.

Domainfest used to be the popular stuff in Europe in those days but they have lost steam in recent time. If you believe your name is great, I'll suggest you submit your name and see what happens. You may just be in luck.
