ODP having technical difficulties

I'm not sure if anyone here has noticed or not but if you are trying to submit any new sites to the Open Directory Project (dmoz.org), you may notice that it is not possible at this time. So if you have been planning to submit or update a site, you will have to simply wait it out until things are operating normally again. Just wanted to let everyone know.

We are currently experiencing technical problems with our servers. Currently the public pages are static pages that have been generated from a backup. This means:

(1) the public pages do not reflect the most recent updates made to the directory;

(2) scripted pages, including site suggestion and application forms, are not functioning; and

(3) editors are unable to check the status of new editor applications.

We do not currently have an ETA for the resolution of the technical difficulties. We will update this announcement when the system is fully functioning again -- please do not start threads asking why the system isn't working properly or when it will be available again. Thanks.

To answer your question, yes. Getting your site listed in dmoz.org has been known to increase the PR of your site. How much it will increase I am not sure since it all depends on what the PR is of the category you submit to, etc. Ive been checking the editor forums lately since I am one of the editors there and I have yet to hear any new updates of when the problem might be fixed. All we know is that they are working on it and it may take some time. Ill try to give you guys updates about the situation as time goes on.

I would say it will have a possitive effect, no reason not to submit.

I think DMOZ is good, It will increase your pagerank and it gets you in the Google directory and its used by lots of different sites for different things.

Dmoz heading back online

Hello guys! I promised to keep you updated and I would like to announce that the editing servers are back online as of 12/18/06. It felt good to be able to login again.
