Hi All,

I hand regged a name this morning that was showing as unavailable at 3 registrars I checked.

Obviously it is still showing as unavailable at these registrars (unable to find actually... but can;t be registered) but at the registrar where I actually registered the name (netsol) it is showing as mine.

The entire episode seems a little odd to me and I suspect that I'm not going to have the name when the smoke clears but was wondering if others had run across this. (This is not like godaddy where they let you reg a name that they say is available when it is not...the primary difference being that the "winning" registrar is actually showing my ownership).

Never come across that in the 1k plus names I've regged.

Any thoughts?

Ok, no thoughts!

How about this:

100 namebucks for a semi-lucid response

50 namebucks for a good guess

10 namebucks for a dumb answer

;)

One winner for each category

The name might have been registered at another registrar and the registrar you used might not have recognized it yet. Either that or something involving the pending delete period. (Where the domain can be reregistered by the original owner for a month after it's expiration by paying a $100 fee.)

I ended up using netsol..everybody else I tried showed it taken. Also, until around noon today there was a snap on the name.

Larry: What's your take on the Duffman's answer?

Worthy of 100NP$, 50NP$, or 10NP$? :]

I'm thinking he's in the middle of the pack right now.

Considering his is the only response that doesnt put him in strong contention for the 100

Unless we get some REAL bad responses that push his up...like yours ...

Did you check the name at internic.net? What does it show when you look it up there?

The local whois, or what you see at netsol.com, might be incorrect. Each registrar maintains their own WHOIS database of domains they have registered with them (or on occasion, names they 'think' they have registered with them). This is a separate database from what the registry has.

Just to give you a real example, I have the name ULTRA.ORG. If you check the whois and Dotster, they report that the name is with them and give the whois data they have on file. The name is actually with eNom. If you check there, you'll get different WHOIS info.

I'm going to take a guess that you don't really have the name, but I'll hope otherwise.

Internic shows

"No match"

The registrar, network solutions shows:

Registrant:
adair, larry
720 redding rd
asheboro, NC 27203
US

Looks like I probably won;t know until tomorrow.

Internic just updated..looks like I;m an owner...

time to develop ;)

NewCarPrices.net

Excellent keyword term.

Overture, wordtracker, and google all have very good returns for the search term.

Thanks Doc, Brian....

That was as odd a registration as I have seen in my 8 years online...especially considering the snap on the name.

But with an avg. monthly search of 100,000 + and ALL other tld's (and derivatives) regged this one fits right into my auto niche that I develop....

unless somebody wants to buy it for the right price. ;)

namebucks on the way to all participants of this thread

Why use NetSol?!

•••
Because all other registrars that I checked said the name was not available to reg

I 'registered' biz.biz with a company, only to be told it wasn't permitted by the registry. Needed to get a refund and everything.

Thats my only relevant experience. 10 NP$ please, hehe.
