I gather by reading some posts in the forum that having a number in the domain name is usually a bad idea. Unless it is something like 3g.com or the like.

I own a lot of car registration (private plate names) for example

PRIVATEPL4TES.COM
CHERISHEDPL4TES.COM
PL4TES.COM

The number 4 in these names is very relavant, as car plates us them as a substitute for letters all the time. The angle I am comming from is that they may not be that good vis a vis search engines etc, but from an advertising point of view they are great. Imagine a press advert that reads simply

NUMBERPL4TES.COM

it gets the message accross in one go. and the domain name can simply forward visitors to another site ie reg.com

reg fee each IMO,
I just don't think names where 4 replaces A are worth anything, even if there for a car plates website or whatever (unless they get lots of traffic).

Sorry, but no. You have to use the thought process of the average person using the web. Nobody in their right mind is going to type in a 4 instead of an A when looking for a site, unless they are responding to an ad that shows it. That means the only visitors you'll get are those that you pay dearly for.

Well if you read my thread more clearly you would see that was exactly what I was saying. As a marketing tool for advertising (press tv etc) they are very effective.

They get the name message across in one line

You're absolutely right -- I did misread your original post. My apologies. If your intention is to get traffic exclusively from advertising, then the name may be okay. I personally wouldn't want to take that risk on investment though. You'll likely lose a lot of traffic to NUMBERPLATES.COM etc.

No problem my friend. I do that all the time, reply before reading the post (or should that be reply b4 reading? lol)

Numberplates.com are actually very intersted in buying it, purely for marketing purposes.

I fully admitt that as far as search engines are concerned they are not that hot.

However I predict the future generation becomming slightly dyslexic thanks to text messaging
