How about hosting on a dedicated server with payment via NP$? Jeff or RJ could set it up, and offer hosting packages exclusively for forum members :) Ex, 250MB space/5GB bandwidth for 300 np$/mo or 3000 np$ / year. 300 np$ at $0.015 would be $4.5, that's a pretty reasonable way to "cash out" your NP$ in the ways you want it. At $4.5 per account like that, with a basic $60/mo server, it'll pay off in no time. Thus, there won't be any overselling, it's a reasonable price, and I'm sure many members will use it. An exta profit for NP here, and there won't be way too many sites hosted on a server. Ex, a celeron 2.0GHZ on 256MB would be a good start for NPHo$ting B-)

What do you think?

I like the idea, but I'm not interested into getting into the hosting business myself. I don't have the time or manpower for the support and maintainance required to run a hosting service. There are already many companies in the industry that already provide excellent hosting services. It would probably be better for me to partner with them to develop a way for them to use NP$ as a payment option.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I think another factor in this, is although NP $ have value to us members, they don't really have much value to RJ, as he is ultimately paying for the creation of them. He could receive as many NP $ as he wants, but in the end he is still down $60, and just has a ton of NP $. I think a partnership could work under the right circumstances.

Could make like a bot like the ribbon one and sell the NP$ he get's in there to pay for the hosting accounts :guilty:

RJ, it could be even more useful if you can develop an API to allow any websites to plug into the NP$ system. Like the PIN system for PayPal.. Let's NamePros be the next PayPal ;)

That is a cool idea! Shame Ron wouldn't do it.

Right! That's kind of what I had in mind with my earlier post in this thread. I have a good idea how to implement it too. Think there would be a few hosts that would be interested?

We would. MangoWebs that is

More simple the API could be integrated, more you'll have host interested I think. And why only hosts ? We could buy and sell templates, name registration, scripts or service subscriptions with NP$.

That's a good point. The main problem I'm trying to resolve in my head is how to handle recurring payments or subscriptions when the buyer's account does not have sufficient funds. What do you think?

I didn't think you want to handle the recurring payments. It could be done via the seller website. Seller has to send bill monthly. Buyer gets a PM to pay. He can accept or refuse. If seller receives no payment in x days, subscription is canceled. And later you could add a system to auto-accept some bills.

I think he could do that, but NP $ are not that easy to sell in that much bulk. The charity ribbon bot has over 30,000 NP $ to sell which will take quite a long time. Imagine if hosting had a similar bot, then it would take even longer to sell all those NP $.

This sounds like a great idea, guys. About the whole payment thing, wouldn't the web hosting company have to have the same NP $ feature aswell? Or would it actually be done through this forum?

That's true, so I guess that blows the idea. The paypal idea was good though IMHO.

If a user has a good reputation, let him borrow some NP$ in cedit (ex, hosting plan is 300 np$, the user only has 150 nP$, he needs 150 np$ more. The payment system gives him a credit of 150 np$, now he has -150 np$, and he has to pay off 5% each month)

I had that idea a while back but for loans!
For security, there would be a TR of at least 15 and you only could take that NP$ out if you had that much already!

I love the idea, even giving a regular user the opportunity to start a NP affiliated host (Not with the name, of course) with strict limits on how many users can join the host, bandwidth, etc., to prevent overselling (Kind of a "reliability" factor, since I've had great results with polurnet.com hosting, but most other hosts I stumble upon have disappointed me thus far).
Also a way to let someone in on the ground floor of the hosting game :)

i think its a great idea, by hosting, more NP is being sucked up, meaning there are less available which makes the value of NP increase which makes the value of Namepros.com increase lol
