I was brainstorming with a few other members in the chat today about a program I could develop in Visual Studio .NET. The idea of this program is to send a message to the chat every 2 hours (minimum) that would advertise their domain/website/etc. There would be a great deal of protection in this program, to easily block spammers. The main method that would be used is that there would be a seperate program in which you could disable other member's privs to use the bot.

This idea got bitterly shot down.

The arguments from the member's that didn't like this idea was mainly that they didn't want advertising in the chat when you could do this in the forum.

I see the obvious reason for this argument, but the chat is another prime way to advertise.

After a bit more brainstorming, I developed an idea where you could literally 'buy' the message credits with NP$. The program would check for your current message credits and use it when sending the messages.

This would completely stop the spamming, because you would be paying for this prime advertising.

Comments...suggestions...? They are much appreciated.

Thanks,
ralxz

(PS: If this system would to be put in place, I would have to coordinate with forum and server admins to correctly set up the database for this feature)

... Like stated in the chat.. we are hit with spam and ads all day. And we certainly do not need a BOT doing it. It's a cool idea, yes... but no need for it, :td: from me. Sorry.

I spend a lot of time in chat... and I honestly don't think this would cut down on the spam that we already get, rather add to it. There also is nothing wrong with having someplaces that there isn't advertising. People go to chat for various reasons and I think that having a bot inserting ads at random would be annoying. :]

These ads wouldn't neccessarily be 'random', you have to admit. It would be appropriate for the NP community (websites, domains, etc).

Also, I really don't see any of the spam you guys have been talking about. I know I have only been a member for a week (or less :p) but I've only occasionaly seen members drop in and leave a message that they're selling a domain.

Agreed. And part of my reasoning :guilty: Not much more for me to say, so I'll back out of this thread :p

What? How can you not see it? The fact that people posting that "Hey gotta domain for sale". blah blah over and over, every 5 minutes is not annoying and considered spam :? :bah:

Yes, I consider that spam: but I've never seen someone repeadly, continuously do that for more than 3 messages.

By the way, my program would be 2 hours -minimum-. I think that's what some of you are missing here?

Maybe I am missing something... "minimum" means there could be more than that should the advertisers demand it. :-/

For example, if they wanted, they could advertise the message every 3 hours, instead of 2. Or every 4 days.

Maybe 'bot' isn't the best way to describe this. 'Bot' automatically reminds a lot of people 'spam'.
