Looks like Europe Registry has purchased north.am and south.am Armenian domains, and is trying to re-brand them like a gTLD for North and South America. I went through the purchase steps to see what the price is... looks like around 19 euro per domain per year.

Do a search from the homepage and you'll see these subdomains in the results list.... just curious on everyone's opinion on these.

Cheers,

Waste of money IMO. Apart from the .eu.com and .uk.com (who are overpriced but have a lot of potential) I would not spend any money on subdomains. Plus, .north.am or .south.am is too long really, and I can imagine the average person in these continents prefers .com or the ccTLD of his own country rather than a subdomain of .north.am or .south.am ...

Not interested

I don't mind .us.com .uk.com and .eu.com subdomains as there is some
connection to countries and networksolutions are now marketing .us.com
quite aggressively which is raising their profile and certainly some of the bids
I have received for travel.us.com, business.us.com etc . But I have no interest in .north.am and south.am subdomains. At least there is a .us and .eu tld out there so adding the .com has some sense.

Good luck to them.
These are too long and rather ugly and I can't imagine them ever being popular.
Any examples of existing subdomains? I'd like to see what type of company/user is buying them- if they're buying junk like this then I will be sending them a sales letter!

Anyone selling subdomains that wants to have a proper chance should make sure his subdomains are lower priced than the average real domain. Only in those circumstances I would consider buying a subdomain.

Some existing examples of what is NOT done:

.co.ni = 60 GBP per year
.ie.nu = 60 euro per year
.nl.vg = 12 euro per year
.uk.com / .eu.com / .us.com = most of the places are 30 per year or above, still way too highly prices

This is an existing example of how it SHOULD be done:

.nl.nu = 1 euro set-up costs, no annual renewal fees

This is the sort of subdomain I would consider because the price is so low you cannot do harm with it. For a temporary site you feel like spending very little on, or for some DNS experimenting, this is quite good. (however, the .nl.nu support is terrible so it may be a bad example)

As soon as a subdomain is asking more money than most popular real extentions, then I wouldn't touch it with a long stick. Must admit I would be tempted to buy some .eu.com's as this is a good extention and many nice domains are available. But the pricing turns me off. It is almost double of the prices for a .eu domain, so why pay 100% more for a subdomain instead of buying a regular .eu domain?
