nominet.org.uk???

I just register a UK domain name and got a email from nominet.org.uk what is this? Do I have to register my domain name with them?

Nominet is the Internet registry for .uk domain names.

They are a company that looks after the .uk extention. You don't have to register with them, you can register with any company you want that accepts .uk registrations, eg. Godaddy. Nominet also seems to send you out a certificate in the post for any domains you register in the .uk extention

Nominet is the registry for .uk (they also have www.nominet.uk, it's one of the very few .uk names at 2nd level ).
They should also be sending you a certificate by snail mail.

They do not tend to do that anymore, you get sent a code (can't remember 100% but think via email).

In their web interface you ensure all the details are ok, it also gives you the opportunity to print off a certificate yourself.

I presume this contains a code. If so it is purely to ensure your details are ok, you can log into their system and change any whois details, company details etc. You can also download a certificate if you wish.

The code they have sent you expires after x amount of days (not sure how long but I remember I tried to use 1 I had a while back and found it no longer worked but I still have the domain name).
