Nokia is a large Finnish mobile phone company but it also happens to be a rather small Finnish city. Actually, that city was the original home of Nokia Corporation in the end of 19th century.
Every other Finnish town uses "town.fi" as their homepage. But the city of Nokia uses "TheCityOfNokia.fi" (nokiankaupunki.fi). I understand the trademark protection but wouldn't the city called "Nokia" also have a natural right to demand "nokia.fi" to itself. There probably has been some deal between the corporation and the city what reagards to the domain names.
But now hypothetical question that came to my mind is: If town of Nokia had registered "nokia.fi" as their homepage, would trademark protection still give Nokia corporation a right to take that domain? I wouldn't find that just.
