backing crypto defeats the purpouse imo. E-gold already had its day.

No harm in trying your luck for a year. I don't think anyone is in the position to say what fate any of the crypto currencies will suffer over the coming months/years. In fact, I think it's worth sticking to one and see what happens. I've registered 25 or so Vertcoin domains plus bought 88 Vertcoins with 0.5 BTC.

PS. I do think Bitcoin is the one to back but I'm not in a position to buy 88 of those, hence backing an outsider...

Might be backed in gold paper. There a big concern the large physical gold deposits are all leveraged up the you know what.

If you want hold in hand gold you can buy it at the local coin shop.

If you want paper gold only to ride a price move you can buy and sell an ETF

Only advantage left is

a) Perhaps easyer to use

b) Hiding money
