No registrar competition with .IN renewals

It really surprises me that there is little competition between registrars in the IN tld. The best price on renewals is about $13.75 at Whiz.in. Elsewhere they are more than that.

Does anyone know the wholesale price of .IN's?


It amazes me that you can renew a .COM name for $7 at GoDaddy yet have to pay $14 for a .IN name.


I've got a lot of Indian names coming up for renewal this year (many regged at $13.75) and I'd like to see a bit of competition for my business.

I think we all would like to see a bit more competition on this, but I guess that while we are regging for less than $4 for a new name then some forget about the renew next year

$4 first year + $14 second year = $18 so $9 per year. Hoepfully they will drop their renewal prices though. Why doesn't Godaddy register .in ?

if you have bulk renewal then contact mitsu.in people they will give you around INR 530 per domain.

Afilias provides the infrastructure for the .IN registry (the same company that runs .INFO & .ORG). A page on their site has the wholesale price they charge for various ccTLDs they run.

.in (second level registrations) RS 500/year
.co.in, .net.in, .org.in, .gen.in, .firm.in, ind.in RS 250/year

500 Rupees is approximately $12.64USD and 250 Rupees is $6.32.
It looks like registrars can't sell much cheaper than ~$13 (for second level) or they will lose money. You have to take into account their operating costs and credit card/Paypal fees too.

The only reason why the registrars can sell .IN for a few dollars for the first year is because the registry is running a promotion [for the first year only], AFAIK
