No Profits from Domain Parking at Sedo!

Ok, guess my expectations of easy money was a little too high to begin with. With 26 domains and 3 days at Sedo, I've only obtained 41 views & 4 clicks on 16 domains, and a grand total of $0.40.

For those of you who read my earlier topic about building my 1st website, well I'm turning it into a bigger challenge. In the last 2 days, I've added an online store (Amazon.com associate) & a classifieds page for my parked domain. Next up will be a blog directory and adult joke site - all 5 websites will be interlinked together. Hopefully, this will drive more traffic to my parked domains.

Anyone interested to follow my personal crusade can check out the website (last line in my signature) ;)

I disappeared for a while to work on Hark's advice ;) I revamped my site and added more info, e.g. affiliate programs. I also started customized versions of Amazon.com's online store and a ringtone site just to illustrate the point. Please check it out and give me your opinions:

www.SedoInc.com

I've also included a link exchange program, so do list your websites there. It's free, it increases your backlinks and improves your PR :)

For what it's worth. the name and even having sedo affiliate links there may be risky. It definitely wouldn't pass the fair use test of a UDRP.

Best of luck though.

Sorry, but I don't quite get what you mean.

To be more blunt, I mean technically you are cybersquatting on sedo's name and using it for profit. They could choose to file a UDRP to take the name from you, or kick you out of the affiliate program for using their own name to send traffic to themselves.

If they filed a UDRP, you would basically not have a leg to stand on and would likely lose the case. They could also go after you for monetary damages.

Basically, you're living dangerously.

Adoptable is right...
Tolkein, even aside from the UDRP issue (Whether or not what you did is legally sound), morally I'm still pretty sure something should have registered with you that it wasn't the best idea in the world...
Your site is fine, the name is (probably) not.

Thanks for being upfront - I'm a noob. I wasn't using sedoinc to profit.

The aim of using sedoinc was to help people understand the money making potential from domain name parking and trading - promoting sedo.com in the process. This, of course, translates into higher sales & exposure for sedo.com, hence, I see myself as a partner than a cybersquatter.

Yeah, can anyone from Sedo comment? I have no qualms switching to another domain name, but if they're that narrow minded, I don't think I'll be that generous promoting them on my site.

My site is a free guide - from what I learned as a newbie. I'm not even selling any ebooks :|

tolkein,
(one of) The problem(s) is that your contextual ads could theorhetically advertise the competition (Adsense).
You can always PM username "sedo" here to confirm what we're telling you ;)

Adsense pays money. That pretty much makes the definition of income or profit. Your link to sedo is also an affiliate link, meaning they could be actually paying you to use their own name to find their site.

Using the same color scheme and similar font also could lead to confustion. You don't even have a disclaimer saying you are NOT affiliated with sedo.com to try to avoid confusion.

Before going to deep, I suggest doing some research on Intellectual property rights, trademark law, and the fair use issues with UDRP.

Thanks. I've added a line at the top that says I'm not affiliated to Sedo.com and also a non-affiliate link. My color scheme was adopted from www.salesasia.net.

Besides, how can I be worst off from others using microsoftl.com or microsoftwebsite.com to profit?! They have the trademarked "microsoft" in the domain and they've absolutely zero content at their site.

A fair enough argument?! Heck, even the biggest PC maker, Dell, doesn't mind someone using DellInc.com so I really dunno what the fuss is all about.

Btw, I have added FREE ebooks and a FREE link popularity checker tool to the site - still not selling anything. Also added a link to NamePros.com ;)

all those domains you mentioned are also illegal, microsoft and dell probably just dont know about them ''yet'' or have not gotten around to shuting them down ''yet'' or maybe the not so nice lawyer letter is on its way...

Let's hope it doesn't come to that :) Mara from Sedo will be coming back to me to say if it's ok or not.

Btw, microsoftwebsite.com is registered from 2003 to 2006 and DellInc.com from 2001 to 2012.

k, i just checked out those 2 sites...

DellInc.com : should be ok, because its the guys name as long as he doesnt use it for anything that has something to do with DELL or computers or computer services...

microsoftwebsite.com : A clear violation...only a matter of time IMO

Since I sort of started a thing here thought I would follow up a bit with an example or 2.

What I do is really a simple layout with some content and some Google to see what happens. The 2 examples here using a semi-standard layout of mine took around 2 hours including carving server space, creating Google for tracking, uploading and updating nameservers.

This helps me to decide to hold for 'real' development/sale, target for PPC, let it drop or somewhere in between. I get a good amount of information by watching server stats.

www.arespoker.com & www.holdemplay.com

I don't expend lots of effort until I can decide if it is worth it (except for my fun projects).

Hark, I used your advice on a couple of domains. I can evaluate the increase in click thru rates because the number of hits hasn't improved.

Regarding poker domains, poker.com has very nice landing pages for their affiliates so I signed up directly with them. Check out www.pokerpagesl.com

FWIW, my friend got a C&D letter from Dell last week for a Dell typo spelled with three L's. It only took them three months to find it...
