7N with '88' spot checks... Prompted by discussion in other threads about the "slow down" in numerics, specifically 7N, I wrote a script to do some spot checks.

Given that we know '888's were all gone either before or at the very beginning of November, I wanted to move on to see how '88's were progressing. My script generated random names with '88' in each internal position (since we also know 88 end and beginning were gone way earlier)... I added on the registration date and the registrar to the output so we can easily see what's going to China... and what's probably not.

--> Keep in mind there are "only" 196,608 "88" combination CHIPs (no 0/4) in 7N. Those INCLUDE 20,000 "888" premium CHIP combinations which, again, we know are gone.

Here's a spot check of 50 from each internal position. Note the dates; note the obvious slanting of the registrars....

I ran those and I noticed some of them were a little "extra premium" because they had "88" AND another 8... or many other 8's. For examples, 882889.com, 5788885.com and 8881629.com were gone "earlier" in the 7N rush ... and for good reason.

Thus that set is not really a good judge of what's happening now because "extra premium names" have been gone for over a month or two. I then updated the script to be sure the only 8's were a singular 88 in each name. Aside from some double double and better patterns, check out how much prominently you see "November 2015" action going on in this 200 name random sample.

In ALL of these random searches, not a single CHIP '88' came up as available to hand reg. That's sorta remarkable and amazing. I wouldn't have guessed it would ever have happened when I opened the thread ---- let alone have it happen in the space of 5 to 6 months.

I have to admit, I'm amazed. When I started this thread in June, I was almost half kidding. Even being early to start the thread about the 7N category, I did not register as many as I should have because I chose not to actually believe it "then". :P

All the while, barely a handful of names on these lists could possibly even guestimate as being held by "Western" investors. The amount of Chinese registrars on these lists is somewhat staggering, IMHO.

If the last post talks about where we've been with 7N, this one tries to find where we actually "are".

While where we're going is anybody's guess, this is list of random premium CHIPs with ONLY one 8. It, at the very least, gives a little indication where we have not yet been...

There are a total of 1,835,008 7N chips with at least one 8... but this includes the measly small 20,000 '88' names as well. Roughly 190 out of 250 were AVAILABLE... And in most cases, the registered ones have some sort of extra pattern within them. 1839122 ends in 22, 1829696 has ends in 9696... etc.

Thus, I would not recommend registering some random pattern with just one 8 expecting to flip it here in the forum 3 days later. Not going to happen that quick.

People have been pointing to a CHIP buyout in 7N ... and I have to admit I think it's entirely possible.

ALL 7N, I still think that's dumb. Might as well buy all 7N chips then just move to work on all 8N chips. There's "only" 16,777,216 8N chips ... and so before "they" reg any of the 7,000,000+ non-chip 7N's... it makes more sense to leave them and go 8N chip.

If you're a broker and you put together portfolios with "large bills" and "small bills" ... You might create someone a domain investment portfolio with 5 4N, 50 5N, 500 6N, 5000 7N ... And this might be a $750,000 portfolio where the owner could trade or sell small names for other investments, etc.

You could build just 400 portfolios for not even a fraction of the 7 million millionaires with the above specs. At 5,000 7N names a pop, all of the CHIPS are gone and there's none left for anyone else.

I have no idea if this actually happens but if you look at the expansion of the market and the continued registration at almost robotic pace of 7N .com's you certainly have to wonder "where" they're going in China.

Picked up by Pheenix before the open auction market from the drops and reg it for 5 years as I thought it may have good future potential in the Asian market after they fight for the current 5,6,7 & probably 8N over the next few years...

I think this time next year we will get a clearer indication if the numeric domain investments are going to increase or decrease in value when it comes to renewals??? Only time will tell...

When I want to have a good cry, I look back at the 6N lists I had generated and count the literal million+ $$$ I could have had if I had registered even half of them. So ya know. I'm holding 125 pretty good 6N, but should have had > 1,000 excellent 6N if I had moved bigger and faster into them.

Seriously -- here's just one 6N list from June 5th, 2015... And while I picked up "some" of these 250, I didn't just buy them all because that early in 6N -- it was CRAZY to think these names would be registered. Like looney bin crazy -- there's a thread, go back and read it from this time period.

And I'm posting this because we are just now slightly past "this" stage with 7N.... and it's stages are going far faster.

In February i planned to reg hundreds of 6N.coms. I planned to use GoDaddy accounts of all my friends as at that time I had coupons for around 20 .coms at $1 each and that was possible then. Only 10 friends would mean 200 domains, for ONLY $200. However, I gave up and only regged a few on my own account. Some crazy combinations was available then, including triple repeating number (in a row).

I used my credit card to reg most of mine at the time and thankfully have pretty much paid back what I used for hand regging, it's back to where I feel comfortable. But a bit of a risk, no pain no gain I guess

Yes ... And part of me would worry that 7N was domainers from NamePros rushing to catch a trend so we didn't miss it "this time".

... But as my random searches point out ... Unless all us NamePros'ers are registering in China ... This run of 7N has absolutely nothing to do with us.
