A Michigan player has won the $205 million grand prize from the latest multistate Mega Millions lotto drawing.

Michigan Lottery officials said the winning ticket from Friday night's drawing was sold shortly before 5:30 p.m. EDT Friday at the River District Supermarket in Port Huron.

"I'm pleased that a Michigan man or woman is going to be our next Mega Millions millionaire," lottery commissioner Gary Peters said in a news release. The winner must contact Michigan Lottery officials and will have to go to Lansing to get his or her winnings.

If the winner chooses to take a lump sum, the prize will equal $122.6 million before taxes, lottery officials said. If the winner chooses the 26-year annuity option, yearly payments will be $7.9 million before taxes.

Hm, I'd almost be tempted to take the yearly... I could buy everything I've always wanted for WAY less than a million! Then again, with the lump sum, I could help alot of other people!

In Canada, as far as I know, there is no tax on lottery winnings. But there is on nearly everything else...:|.

No tax on lottery winnings here in the UK either! Lucky person, wish I was him! Lol. I'd rather make my millions by working, more satisfying than the lottery.

I'm saying, I'd much rather make my millions by building up a successful business empire and becoming a world-renowned businessman. I think that'd be much more fun and satisfying that just winning the lottery. Not saying I wouldn't take the cash if I won though ;)

Obviously not working for someone else, its not possible to make that kind of money working for someone else!

To be honest...I would be a wreck if I won that kind of money.

Alot of would be winners say that money wouldn't change them but I find that hard to believe. I definitely would be sharing my wealth with various causes. Being a "little fish in a big pond" days would be over, that's for sure.

We don't pay taxes on our lottery winnings in Canada, but then again, we don't have any lotteries that even come close to 200+ million dollars.

Oh, BTW, I wonder if the winner is in need of a few domain names. I have some that I would let go for the bargain price of $100,000 each! :hehe:

Yikes!

I won around 15,000$ on a soccer match coupon once.. I'm not allowed to get my cash out before I'm 18 though, but it guess it will help me when I move out :) I honestly think $205 million is just to much.. you'll have no need to work for the rest of your life and what you gonna do then? Just sit home? Will get boring .. :|

The Mac and Microsoft guys may make a lot, but I really doubt they make $205M! Maybe like, the Microsoft VP, but even then... I could be wrong (and probably am, but I just find it hard to believe).

If I won $200M, (well it would probably come down to about $125M after taxes) I would probably invest $50M in a safe, low yield account, use another $10M for myself (new house, cars, everything), and use the rest to start up some businesses so the money won't just "run out."

I too agree with Will7 how satisfying it is when you earn the money all by yourself. Every single cent, dollar, hundreds, thousands..Shesh. The feeling is simply incomparable! I always envy those successful businessman who literally started their empire from scratch rather than those who have some luck and turn into a millionaire overnight. That kind of money never last, in my opinion. :)

Paul Allen and Steve Ballmer (both Microsoft guys) are billionaires... Paul has 2.1 billion, Steve has 1.1 billion...

Imagine one day being sacked..Ouch! Being your own boss is still the best and come on folks! We have to be satisfied with life, shouldn't expect too much sometimes. Eating shark fin or eating trout is still food. Though they taste different, but they are still going to fill up our tummy. The more we expect, the more we greed. Many things in lives are unneccessary in my opinion. One good example, internet! Hahahaha Oops :x

Yes, but look how high up they are in the company! They are obviously going to earn a lot! I am talking about a standard job (maybe quite high up) but not for such a large company as Microsoft.

MissFlora gets what I'm saying!

I'd surely take $122.6 mil. After taxes that'd be around $95 mil. Put them in the bank for 3% a year - that's $2,850,000 a year INCOME. Take some $$$ off for any applicable taxes, and you have $210 thousands every month :p Now THAT'S more than you can ever spend. Take a $1,000,000 credit, buy a mansion in Beverly Hills, and live happily ever after :D
