It's a pretty sleazy business, the internet in general is a pretty sleazy place. Your base assumption in any dealings with strangers online should always be that the other guy is a crook.

you are right, must be more carefull, but if you read the
links that i post this is a trap in that many people will going,
one contact, one forum page and then appraisale etc.i have
lucky that i on the start found out this(thanks this forum and
member kath) but some people will even pay more and on the
end will not be good.maybe some other examples like this can
help other newbies to see the dark side of this business and
to be carefull

i can do it but i don't think that they will give money back :)
i'm not a lawyer but i payed for appraisale and they give me
appraisale(this is fact),i think that this is not criminal but
the way how there are doing this have criminal elements,
more people can do maybe more but alone, very hard.
i have payed my lession in harder way, keep going forward,
thanks to you i save future money and i hope that other
people will learn on others mistakes and one of the ways to
save others from scamers is that there are reading this.

best regards kath

The scam is an old topic, but it is unfortunite that you were taken in by this. Any time a buyer wants you to do special things and pay fees it's always a red flag. People should only have some trust in someone if there is a proven reason that they deserve it, such as lots of good positive trader feedback here. But even then you should not trust someone too far if you don't know them unless you are prepared to lose what you are trusting the with. :)

You can just take it as experience and tell others so they don't get taken in, but you can also fight back. If you paid with a credit card or with PayPal you can follow their procedures for getting a refund. It would help if you can document that the "buyer" was really with the appraisal company. You may not be able to show that, but since this scam is posted in many places it can help to show you have been a victim.

If you can't get a refund that way, you can try confronting the scammer directly. Find out as much as you can about them. Get all their email addresses, their domains, their hosting providers, their home Internet access provider, their affiliate programs, their domain registrar, their web hosting company, and any partners or advertisers they have on their site. Start by contacting them and asking for your money back and tell them you now know the scam they are running. if they refuse, keep demanding your money back and list the reasons in detail. Start copying the emails addresses you have gathered starting with their registrar and hosting provider. If they keep refusing, add more email addresses and turn yourself into the big jerk on the web. If you get enough attention by sending this email to their service providers and partners, you will start to be more trouble then the $60 they took from you.

Sure, it's a lot of work, and you may bother some people that did not steal from you, but those people need to know who their customer or partner really is and you are doing them a favor make making this effort. If more people did this the scams would not be as many as they are now, in my opinion.

Sometimes it won't work, but I can tell you from my experience that once you start telling everybody some of them tell the scammer to give the money back. Just be sure you are going after the real bad guy and that you have your information about the scam all documented so no one can say you are lying.

Good luck, and keep in mind there are some good, honest people out there. :)

Everyone will run into this one time or another. I encourage you to not let this affect you, and keep going strong. Just be a bit more cautious in your dealing with strangers.

Here's another tip for newbies. Occasionally you'll get spam emails from sleazeballs such as this:

The domain name xxxxx.com is for sale by webnamesolution.com . Hurry and take advantage of this limited time special offer $199.95 USD.

This is because you likely own xxxxx.net or xxxxx.org some similar variation of xxxxx.com .

If you want the advertised domain, do not buy it for the "limited time special offer". Go check whois.sc, many times it's not even registered! If it's not, pick it up for regfee.

If it is registered, wait. Check it a few times a day and it is very likely that it will show up within 5 days because he is just tasting and when nobody bites he drops it.

I have had 100% success, 6 out of 6, obtaining these domains at regfee, DON'T EVER PAY THE SCAMMER WHO SENT THE EMAIL!

The identity of the guilty spammer has not been changed to protect his identity

Never pay for an appraisal - Stick on here or other forums!

I had thought about it in the early days but luckily heard about the scams before I put cash into some of these!

Rob
