Hi,

I would like to know the following.

How to identify less risky domain name purchases?

For example, is it better to buy generic word domain names like bankloan or cheapcars or parishotels or winecellar etc etc rather than trying to be creative?

Are generic names relatively low risk?

Is it a good idea to buy company names with the aim of selling back to them? Is it legal to do that?

I have noticed on here that perhaps the best way to make money is by developing websites rather than leaving them parked. Is Google adds the best service to have on my websites when I have added some quality content?

Thanks for your time and help.

Go for generics instead of creatives. Creatives are cool but sale depends on someone falling in love with the name or starting a company named exactly that.

Eg could reg carprotector.com but relies on one company deciding this is the name for them, whilst carinsurance.com is generic, describes product and is applicable to all companies who sell car insurance. As for low risk, I guess for resale it'd depend on how much you spent to acquire it.

Don't go for TM domains as the company can confiscate it through a URDP process and can makeyou pay damages or fees if successful. Unless the company name
Is generic enough and you don't make it out as tho it was only regged for sale to the company you can be ok.

Ok, thanks very much for that info, appreciated!!

Another thing I would really like to know is.

For search engine results.

I buy for example a site carinsurances.com. This gets say 70,000 exact keyword hits

but

carinsurance.com gets 1000000 exact matches because it doesn't have the s at the end.

Does that really make a difference to rankings if I were to develop the site???? Would I still have a good chance to get top page for keyword car insurance if I bought carinsurances.com and I built good content and backlinks???

Thanks very much, I am trying to learn as much as I can early so this doesn't become too costly!!
