Hi, nice to hear someone new asking before jumping straight in. Short .com names are where you need to be. Your question is not easily answered as it depends on YOU - what your budget is, where your strengths are, what you like and have knowledge of and what you plan to do with the names.

I would highly recommend spending as much time as possible reading this site, Newbie section, Appraisals, etc etc, there is a lot of information here and in a weeks time you will probably see things differently than you do today.

A tip from me would be, don't buy 10 buy 1 and make sure that 1 is something you know about or have an interest in, i.e. instead of buying 10 names with $500, buy one name - quality not quantity.

Agree with Theydon. Much better to buy 1 domain at $500 than 10 domains at $50. But before you do, make sure you educate yourself as to domain values (which isn't an exact science).

Good advice here!

- Check the initial post before replying in a thread, because the OP may have been banned.

Its still a nice question that others can learn from.

I would throw in the:

If you put all your "savings" into one name there no guarantee you will be able to sell it for a profit anytime soon just because "It has to be a quality name I paid five hundred for it".

If there only one bullet in your gun you have to aim real well (research)

Yes of course. Which is why I added the caveat to learn about domain valuations before they buy a domain. And of course, it wasn't meant to be as literal as it read. I was still expecting the OP was going to buy more than one domain, despite my advice :)
